Haben is a 17-years-old Eritrean pupil. He is originally from Segenayti (South Eritrea). In apperance: he has long, wavey, and dyed hair and with earlings. No visible tatoo.
Signals pointed: (in reference to already the circulated e-mail among colleagues) - Lots of mistrust; had difficult experiences in his migration routes; and he tends to push any help away.
The setting of the talk:
- The talk took place at De Hef in Slaghekstraat 221, 3074 LJ, Rotterdam. Arrived around 11:00 at the school reception, then escorted by people at the reception to Haben’s teacher Ms. Alette Kloek.

The structure of the talk:
The talk was structured into three phases: in the first round, a lengthy discussion on education and schooling; in the second round, Haben’s life in Eritrea and his migration experiences in Ethiopia, Sudan, Libya, Italy and The NL. Finally, in making concrete plans of what need to be done and how we can both achieve that.
The gist of the first round of the talk: education and schooling [Haben and Nebil]
- When asked on how he was doing at school, Haben replied as follows: “The language is really difficult for me. My problem is not going to school but going to school with “the kids” [his classmates] and not daring to speak up my mind.”
- Haben said: “Until now I have not done anything in relation my schooling, but I will do my best from now onwards. I was upset with my father. We had some issues between us. That is why I was creating problems at the center [KWE] and not doing well at school. Together, we were able to call my father and the disagreement between me and my father is now sorted. Everything is alright!”
- Curious about the disagreement with his father, I asked back: “What were the reasons for that?” Haben’s reply was: “Nothing serious, he said something over the phone that I did not like and that is how it started. Now, it is dealt.”
- Another concern flagged by Haben is his procedure for family reunification. He is under the impression that the process is lagging behind. By own words: “The IND is asking me for marriage certificates of my parents! Strangely, as if I was the one who got them married.
