If we analyze Michael Jackson’s case, his perceptions of his body, seeking approval of others and unresolved conflicts from childhood had a direct impact on his cognition and behavior. By seeking behavior therapy, Michael could have certainly benefitted from it. The elements of depression, anxiety and phobia played a major role in altering Michael’s behaviors. The issues could have been dealt accordingly by behavior therapy. It is one of the most commonly used behavior therapy techniques. The process of systematic desensitization usually begins with an identification of anxiety-evoking situations. The situations are arranged in an ascending order. Each issue is dealt with separately and the person is taught to deal with each situation. The core purpose of a psychologist in systematic desensitization is to teach the element of relaxation when anxiety strikes (Mark, 1986). By replicating the feared stimulus, psychologists are able to determine the intensity of the stimulus. All anxiety provoking situations are dealt with separately so that over time the client learns to deal with
