Analysis Of Requiem For A Dream

The movie, Requiem for a Dream, takes place in Brooklyn, New York in an apartment where a middle-aged woman, Sara Goldfarb lives. She is visited by her son, Harry, who steals her TV set to pawn it for money in order to buy heroin. Harry and his friend, Tyrone, becomes high on drugs as they plan to make more profit selling drugs at Coney Island. Meanwhile, Sara, watches her favorite show, “Tappy Tibbon’s Month of Fury” and gets a phone call that asks if she wants to appear on the show. She then tries to watch for her bodily figure by undertaking a strict diet so that she can appear on TV looking slim. However, her diet did not work so she takes amphetamine pills. As the days go by, Sara increases her dosage which causes her to suffer from amphetamine psychosis. She goes to a television studio which made the staff call a paramedic. Meanwhile, Harry and his friends, Tyrone and Marion, have aspiring dreams, but they need money to achieve
When Harry, Tyrone, and Marion were doing drugs, they decided to sell heroin to make money for their own dreams. When they ran out of heroin to sell, Tyrone gets placed in jail for being involved with gangs and Marion becomes a prostitute to obtain the drugs. Marion does this because she started to have relationship problems with Harry and she becomes more obsessed with the drugs. Tyrone gets arrested a second time for drug possession and has to deal with hard labor as well as prison guards that treat him horribly because he is black. Both of Harry’s friends also have withdrawal symptoms which affect their thinking process. In the end of the movie, Marion ends up in shame from all the sexual abuse she has to go through for drugs and Tyrone has to suffer in jail. All the characters have rough endings where they all have to accept their own reality after abusing drugs for so long. They were not able to fulfill their dreams and are left to suffer physically and
