Analysis Of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon
Late night shows have historically been platforms for political satire. The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon proves to be no exception. NBC produces the show and it airs every evening. After President Trump’s first state of the union speech, Mr. Fallon and NBC were quick to get in on the comedic action that it revealed. Numerous United States Presidents have been subject to scrutiny by America’s late-night television shows such as Seth Myers, Jay Leno, and Conan O’Brien. NBC knows that America’s political climate is a sensationalistic one right now and perhaps one that needs a little humor. There was a perfect storm created by political situations as well as the quirkiness and recognizability of Mr. Fallon’s humor. NBC, being a broadcast …show more content…
For example, the reference to the Russian president Vladimir Putin as well as making fun of the fact that President Trump tends to be reliant on a telepromptor for his speeches. With President Trump’s approval ratings being relatively low for modern presidents, NBC likely feels that it has some maneuverability with regards to its political comedy routines; and it shows in this clip. Nevertheless, they have poked at other presidents such as Obama and Bush as well. Jimmy Fallon has become popular among the younger generation of this country because of his youthful mannerisms and moods. This allows NBC to pander more to their preferences and biases, because they may be trying to stand out to the younger generation of this county; especially in this post-network era. Something that NBC has done really well with respect to this programming is the use of Fallon’s tellents. The web has brought about numerous different methods of watching content; mainly streaming services. NBC has the intriguing task of deciding how to integrate live shows like the Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon into this new streaming landscape. This clip’s content appeals to a broad audiences. As does many other skits and bits performed on the Tonight show. The question is, will this type of content will be enough to save NBC from the wrath of American house holds discountinuing their television packages. One way that NBC is doing this is through their YouTube channel’s. I found the above clip on the Tonight Show’s YouTube Channel because it was conventions for me because I do not watch this show live. It offers people a chance to catch up the next day on missed comedy from Fallon and people are able to relive the show over
