Analyzing Oprah Winfrey's Speech

While presenting my speech about the very influential Oprah Winfrey, I will keep in mind my audience, and relate the topic to their interest. This will not be too difficult of a task since the audience and I have many similarities. I will be speaking about Oprah Winfrey, a famous talk show host, to approximately twenty students and one professor. Most of these students are female while only a handful are male. The entire audience is in my Living Learning Community, therefore we are all freshman who are majoring health professions. The majority of my audience has a concentration in nursing while others plan to become dentists, sonographers, physical therapists and so on. After researching many reliable websites, I have learned a lot about Oprah, despite the background knowledge I
previously had. I learned about her difficult childhood and how she turned her life around to become not only the first African American billionaire, but a role model to millions of people. Oprah is a very famous individual that has appeared on television and hosts her own talk show.
I assume because of her fame and popularity, my audience will know basic information regarding this person. I assume most of them will know what she looks like, how old she is, and some major accomplishments. I will do my best to teach the audience facts they did not know prior to my presentation. As health profession majors, the audience and myself share an interest in helping others and bettering the lives of the population by providing care. This relates to how Oprah helps others, donates to charities, and cares about the overall wellness of our nation. Oprah may not provide medical care, but she is supportive and wants to see people improve mentally, physically and emotionally, which is equally important. Inspiration, gratitude, and motivation are all feelings that my audience will experience after listening to Oprah’s life story. This is beneficial especially as college students because, we are going through a time of stress. Hearing the story of Oprah will encourage the audience that they can get into the nursing program, sonography program, or accomplish whatever their goals may
be.
My purpose is to focus on the accomplishments Oprah achieved and how she overcame her difficulties. By focusing on these important factors, my audience will respond in accordance with this purpose. I may decide to relate some of my own obstacles to to reflect on Oprah’s story in order to the audience to respond.
Overall, my audience will benefit from this presentation because Oprah’s story is a very inspiring one. I hope my audience will feel more motivated to accomplish their goals after listening, and also feel as if their problems are not permanent ones, but more so obstacles they can overcome. This speech will provide hope that we can all be successful.
