Analyzing The Movie 'Argo'
Argo” The Oscar Winning Movie for 2012

“They are going to try and break you,” and when you hear “I think my story is the only thing between you and a gun to your head” is a life changing event that makes you realize how important it is to cooperate. When you watch Argo starring Ben Affleck as Tony Mendez, you know you are watching an Oscar nominee movie. The movie was written by Chris Terrio, based off of true events that occurred in 1979 which Tony Mendez (a CIA agent) led the rescue of six U.S. diplomats from Iran (rottentomatoes.com, 2012). According to oscars.org/awards/academyawards/legacy/ceremony/85th, “Argo” won three Oscar awards for best picture, best director (Ben Affleck), and best film editing (William Goldenberg). The critical

The movie was based off of two books, “The Master of Disguise” by Antonio J. Mendez, and “The Great Escape” by Joshuah Bearman (IMDB ARGO, 2012). Since the story came from the two books, Ben Affleck used a screen play to help format it for the film. The director needs to collaborate with the screenwriter, actors and the other members of the movie to help tell the story and since Ben wanted to bring it to a cinematic way to achieve the success he did with directing “Good Will Hunting” (Goodykoontz, and et al, 2011). If we tell the story in Argo, we would say it is about six diplomatic personnel in which a CIA agent (Mendez) secretly operates to rescue them from Tehran, Iran during the 1979 Iran hostage crisis (IMDB ARGO, 2012). Ben used the setting of the movie to tie closely to the time and place to help tell the story and it was very important to set the setting for the film’s element of the conflict and the symbolic meaning of Iran’s revolutionary era. The importance of the settings, conflicts, and the action are some key elements to telling the …show more content…
This theme is emphasized by courage and the wits to take on a daring task. The camera angles and shots brought out the true feelings of these diplomats and a CIA agent that showed bravery. The details of how these diplomats were confined to the rescue of Canada’s ambassador’s residence demonstrated how much they were willing to give up to stay alive. The lack of freedom, to stay hidden from Iranian forces, was making the diplomats impatient. Agent Mendez took on the courage to extract them, but knowingly it could be life or death for all seven of

Towards the end of the movie, Oscar and his friends ends their night of celebrating their New Year in a confrontation with police officers at the Fruitvale BART station. Unfortunately, that was Grant’s last encounter. In my opinion, the movie Fruitvale Station is an accurate representation of what occurred Oscar Grant on…

Argo: How the CIA and Hollywood Pulled Off the Most Audacious Rescue in History, the historical nonfiction book written by Antonio Mendez and Matt Baglio, brings the reader into the world of deception and espionage. As he describes the events behind the CIA’s pursuit to rescue hostages from Iranian captivity, Mendez utilizes a first-person narrative that helps present the story as historical nonfiction. During the event of the security check at the airport, Mendez’s usage of past tense language must remain in the story to sound historical; however, his personal diction and limited selection of detail develops a genuinely inhibited and professional tone, which would have to change for the section to become dramatized as historical fiction.…

Amistad, directed by Steven Spielberg, displays the fierce determination of 53 African abductees and their compelling desire to return home. Led by Cinqué (or Sengbe), a man longing to see his wife and son in Sierra Leone again, the men aboard the ship La Amistad rebelled against the Spanish slave traders who guarded them from escape. Using sugar cane knives stolen from cargo aboard the ship, the Africans defeated the gun-wielding Spaniards. With ambitions of returning to West Africa, they eventually ended up off the coast of Long Island instead of the initial destination, a Cuban port. Even as the native Africans adjusted to an entirely different life in America, their African identity still remained apparent throughout the film.…

    Divergent Movie Analysis

Based solely on the novel of Divergent a movie was made lasting two hours and nine minutes. This isn't a short span of time for a movie yet, could it be pure coincidence that they left out some details. Could it have been some of the effects were to gruesome for a film rated PG-13? Or were these actions of leaving the details out more purposeful? Does it give the movie somewhat of a different meaning than the original script of the book? So it brings into question, who wrote it better the writer of the novel Veronica Roth, or the director of the film Neil Burger?…

The film opens with a close up shot of Alex dressed in white with gray suspenders showcasing his false eyelashes on his right eye and with the brim of his pork pie hat tilted slightly downward. His ominous blue eyes peering right through you as if you did not even exist. Slowly the camera pulls back as Alex takes a sip of drug laced milk revealing the type of company he keeps. His “droogs” as Alex called them were seated next to him on a bench in the Korova Milk Bar. The Korova Milk Bar was decorated with nude figures of women posed as if they had fallen backwards and they attempted to catch themselves by putting their arms behind them. The flats of their stomachs doubled as a table where glasses of milk could be placed. Other nude statues…

I would assume the movies he has directed have been very good to have received these awards and nominations. As for the actors, I believe they did an excellent job overall. The only parts I have mixed feelings about were how the deaths were acted out. It took away from the movie for me personally because they did not seem realistic. Instant blood and dramatic falls did not provide an accurate depiction of how devastating this event was. De Niro and Irons did an especially great job portraying their characters. In the very end of the movie, you could see Rodrigo’s struggle to hold on and Father Gabriel’s fear, although he would not turn his back on the natives who had put their trust in him. The other actors who played the other Jesuit missionaries did an excellent job as well, but in my opinion, did not have as an important position in the movie like De Niro or Irons. The actors portraying the Portuguese slave traders really took hold of the ignorance the Portuguese had towards the Natives. Ray McAnally, who had the role of the Cardinal, did a great job of showing how difficult the decision was for him to give Portuguese control as well as his regret and grief for the destruction that…

Throughout the entire movie, violence and action are depicted in some shape or form. This is also intensified with the use of camera angle, setting, and special effects. There are also many themes that surround the film, which propel the plot further, such as betrayal and trust. Moreover, the story consists of a group of criminals who are on a job to rob diamonds, however when cops arrive at the location, this causes accusations to run rampant.…

Everyone has a story. As we learned in the movie Amistad, everyone goes through something different that changes their lives and shapes them into the person that they are today. This event or happening that takes place can have many emotions: sad, joyful, mournful, happy or even none. It all depends on how we react and let it affect your life. A major part of my story, and what has shaped me into the person I am today, is my parents’ divorce.…

A seminal moment in the film “The Matrix” is where Neo chooses the red pill from Morpheous to see how deep the rabbit hole goals (rather than the other option of just returning to the matrix). Upon teaching Neo that his life had been part of the matrix, Morpheous said to him “Have you ever had a dream, Neo, that you were so sure was real? What if you were unable to wake from that dream? How would you know the difference between the dream world and the real world?” The world around you could be something completely different from what you are currently perceiving it to be. This is known as a skeptical hypothesis and occurs when you are radically deceived about the world and yet your experience of the world…
