Anatidaephobia
How to Conquer Anatidaephobia

Ducks are animals that you see in your daily life, be it in the pond across the street, or just as you cross the road. Ducks seem to be peaceful animals, but some people have developed an odd fear of them. Some people believe that somehow, they are always being watched by a duck. No matter where they are, the people with this fear will still believe that a duck is observing them. Anatidaephobia is a psychological fear, and is usually due to a traumatic event in the person’s life. This phobia can gravely limit a person’s life, the fear getting to them in all instances, and keeping them indoors with a sense of paranoia. Here are some steps that will help manage Anatidaephobia, if you suffer from it. First, you need to remind yourself that ducks are peaceful animals. Ducks will run away from you if you get too close, and they are frightened away by several things, like plastic bags for example. If a duck is observing you, it will be easy to break its line of sight with any object you find around you. Next, you need to open your windows and look outside, so you can see that there is no duck outside watching your every move. Try to clear your mind from the phobia, and every time you feel it creeping up on you, just glimpse outside and assure yourself that there is no duck there. Now that you are assured that there is no duck following your actions, you need to find a way to be comfortable around ducks. A good way to start this step is by going to your local store and buying a few rubber duck toys. Place these rubber ducks in different places around your house or room, and remind yourself every time that you see one that you are safe. These rubber ducks will begin to grow on you, and help you realize how harmless ducks really are. Afterward, you need a way to see how fragile ducks really are. There is a video game called Duck Hunt that will help you do so. In Duck Hunt, your only goal is to shoot ducks with a

    | Someone hunting small, fast, close birds would generally use an improved cylinder or modified choke, which creates a broad shot pattern that spreads quickly at close ranges. Conversely, someone hunting a larger, less mobile bird that is usually farther away, such as a turkey, would select a full choke, which concentrates the shot in a smaller area.…

Poor geese suffer a “[head bash] against the wall to stun them” by Paul who is “like a madman” attempting to kill them for a meal (Remarque 92). Paul and Sanislaus, and older comrade, go off into the woods after an attack at the front trenches stalking and hunting their guiltless preys, the geese. The geese put up a fight before losing their lives to carnivorous soldiers who crave their meat and utilize their feathers for pillow cushions. Geese are not the only victims of human destruction, horses in battle also take the fall when they are the “moaning of the world, [they] are the martyred creation, wild with anguish, filled with terror and groaning” (Remarque 62). Horses are ridden into battle and a couple end up dead or wounded; the few that lie in no man’s land moan in agony and desperately yearn for sympathy. A soldier can no longer take the desperate cries, shoots the horse and the others watch as “slowly, humbly, it sinks to the ground” (Remarque 64). Geese, horses, other animals, and overall Mother Nature are crudely harmed by selfish wars between mankind in this novel, but this novel is a fictional depiction of the harsh realities of…

BOOM! Then, dead silence. The water ripples as the smell of gun powder fills the air. The victim is seen helpless by the hunter. Now if this is what sounds like a thrill to you, duck hunting is the way to go. If someone were to ask me what my favorite hobby is, I would have to say duck hunting in North Dakota. Some may not consider it a hobby because I only duck hunt four days a year, but I still do. I also duck hunt behind our house on Trident Lake another three to ten days a year. Duck hunting is very different from other types of hunting. Usually hunters have to be still and quiet when deer and turkey hunting. When duck hunting, a necessity is to keep the eyes down. It doesn’t matter if talking or moving is involved, as long as the duck can’t see the hunter’s eyes.…

There is the fight or flight that every living being uses, animal and human. Humans often have other bodily reactions to fear, such as fast heart rate, sweaty palms and many others. Often times, the same person can have different reactions to different situations. For example, when I take a big test or write an essay, my hands begin to sweat. Not only does this help me calm down, I am able to focus on the task at hand. I have had a lasting fear of “The back room” in my house, it is a room that is unfinished and is used for storage purposes. I fear the room because it has a decent amount of old stuff, the room is dusty, and it is a dwelling for many arthropods and arachnids. I do not hate the room itself, because it holds the water heater and all the tools to make my house work smoothly, but I fear what lies behind the boxes, the old board games, and the unknown inside it all. Every time I have to go back in the room, I shiver and shudder and pray that there is not any sudden movement that passes my feet. While I shiver at the thought of bugs and the unknown I also have a terrible fear of heights. My fear is so bad I can barely go on the final step of a six foot ladder. I refuse to go into the attic and I scoff at the idea of helping my sister put Christmas lights on the roof. When I do come to a situation when I am on a rooftop or on a mountain overlooking a valley, not only am I…

Is that good for them? Would it not be better for them if the mother just hatched them on the ground, like other ducks? The truth is, the time spent preparing the duckling for the jump, which takes around 1-3 days, helps the ducklings immensely. For after they jump out of the tree hole, the wood duck ducklings are usually far stronger and healthier than your average duckling of another species. When other species of ducklings are first hatched, they are usually brought into the water as soon as they dry off, without the important period of recuperation after hatching that the wood ducks…
