Ancient Greek Olympics
The olympics is a game where the most talented athletes from across the world come together and compete against one another in different sports like Basketball, Soccer, Swimming , gymnastics , fencing , volleyball, beach volleyball, track and field and many more sports you can think of. About 206 countries and more than eleven thousand athletes participate. The olympics is held in a different country every two years alternating between winter and summer sports, it starts at the first week of august and ends at the last week. Following by the paralympics in the month of september. Paralympics are held for talented athletes who are born with disabilities. It was first invented as a religious festival in the honor of the greek God Zeus. People donated gifts to the God , buildings , statues , altars and many more. In today's olympics anyone is allowed to compete, during the olympia only Greeks were allowed to compete. The Greeks would travel thousands miles away to come compete.The greeks what year it was based on the olympics. Whoever won every four years had the olympiad name after them. The first Olympiad who was honored was Korobois of Elis, He was the winner of the race in 776 B.C. In ancient Olympics someone was given the job of being spondorophoroi, A spondorophoi is someone that ran over to the greek towns, letting everyone know the dates that the olympics will be held. The ancient olympics was held for only five days, those five days were very eventful. Today’s olympics are held for about Three weeks with three hundred events taken place, not including the paralympics. The first modern Olympics was held on April sixth through April fifteenth 1896 in Athens Greece, Women weren't allowed to participate, it was only Men. Married women weren’t allowed to attend the olympics game, the only women that were allowed to attend were lut Women were first allowed to participate at the 1900’s olympic Games that was held in Paris. Till this day the olympic is still a really big deal and I hope to be apart of it
