In the essay The Ontology of the Photographic Image, Andrew Bazin argues that film and photography surpass painting as a form of visual art because they in a sense capture time and the moment as it is in the moment i.e. they in a sense freeze time. This argument might have been true at the time this essay was written but this above statement is not true at this time. When a painting is being painted it captures the artist train of thought, emotions, feelings and desire in that instant. It captures time as it is in that moment.
