“Jackson, I’m sure she didn’t do it on purpose. It was probably an accident.”
Jackson picked out a pebble and held it in his hands. Amazing how something that’s never been touched by man can be so smooth, but he was too frustrated to enjoy it. He tossed it in the river, but was disappointed how small the splash was. Paying no attention to what Morgan was saying, he picked up a larger rock. He was startled by how heavy it was for only being half the size of his hand. Again, he couldn’t help but think about how smooth it felt in his hands. He aimed a little farther out, and tossed the rock. This splash was no bigger than the first one. Confused,
he picked up another rock. This one slightly shorter than the length of his hand. It felt to be about the same weight as the previous rock, and just as smooth, but it was much thicker. He threw with all his might, expecting a larger splash, but as the rock collided with the surface of the water, the resulting splash was even smaller than the first one. Seconds later, the third stone came skipping back, but not from where he’d thrown it. Dumbfounded, he asked if Morgan had seen what had happened. He was shocked to find that Morgan was no longer with him.
