Recently, the Reno Gazette-Journal published here: http://www.rgj.com/story/opinion/voices/2015/09/11/op-ed-clean-power-good-move-environment-economy/72099602/ that the Clean Power Plan was voted to get support from the Reno City Council, which will certainly help distance our country from contaminated coal power and move towards renewable and clean energy.
Wirth sincerely supports the vote and the actions of the council to bring different voices together in supporting the Clean Power Plan and thus bringing the country towards its clean energy future. The great progress has been made towards a new, sustainable, healthy, diverse and clean economy and the leading companies in the transition are thankfully still pressuring the officials. And this is the perfect moment and the chance to ask for more and the actual leadership from the officials to create a strong and healthy economy by using rational and long- term logical thinking.
The topic concerning clean energy is completely apolitical – it is concerned with the reality of our region and about the unacceptable quality of the air we all breathe, the growing number of forest fires and the drought. It is about bringing the awareness to the fact that even though we have access and possibility to use geothermal and solar energy, we still chose to burn coal in order to get electricity.
The support of the Clean Power Plan represents an important period, if not the crucial moment, in the opportunity to make a remarkable achievement for the entire community. Through this support the community will not only start its way toward the clean future of energy, but also benefit greatly from the growing economy. Wirth is addressing the officials in the state government and the ones in Congress as well, to advance towards making certain measures needed for obtaining the ultimate clean energy.
