Dave Brooster, a 19-year-old male, came into my practice today after being referred by the military hospital for further evaluation. He was referred by a military physician to get a comprehensive evaluation of his hearing after failing a hearing screening on his base. Dave reports having a ringing in his right ear and but is still hearing normally. In his left ear, Dave reports not hearing as well as before where he isn’t able to catch some words in a conversation as well as he could before. His Drill Sargent reports that they have been training with firearms over the past week before Dave reported any problem with his hearing. Dave mentioned that the hearing protection that was provided to them did not fit in his ears very well and would frequently fall out during practice. Since then, there has been no improvement in his hearing accompanied by the tinnitus and no change in his re-screening. Dave is worried that his military career will be short lived and his life after leaving the…

October 21, 1982, a Black male constrained his way into the home of a 28-year-old Caucasian woman in a neighborhood of St. Louis, by threating her with a knife, he robbed her of her jewelry and other expensive items and also sexually assaulted the woman numerous times (Briscoe, n.d.). In between the sexual acts, three cigarettes were smoked between the two (Briscoe, n.d.). The victimizer engaged in a conversation with the victim and asked her for her name. She gained confidence and followed by asking him for his name. He lied to her and said he was Johnny Briscoe. Prior to the attacker leaving, he shared that he would call her at a future time and soon after he left the woman called the police (Briscoe, n.d.).…

The Roper v. Simmons murder trial was decided on March 1, 2005. Around this time the Atkins v. Virginia trial was decided in favor of Atkins. The Nuremburg Trial outcome is our vital evidence that Albert Speer was a man who was corrupted by the events at the time. He is the epitome of the saying “events shape people more than people shape events” as he merely rode the wave of Nazism. As German historian Joachim Fest stated, “He [Hitler] drew Speer to him like no one else, he singles him out and made him great” (Fest, The Face of Third Reich, pg 340). In any other situation it is inconceivable that an architect could have come to hold the title of Minister of Armaments and War Production. The event of Nazi Germany transformed an architect, whose destiny seemingly lay in continuing the family business, to a man answerable only to the ‘Fuhrer’. Albert Speer did not shape Nazi Germany: Nazi Germany shaped Speer.…

I am David Shane Dobyns, twenty-two years of age; I was born in Puyallup, Washington August 17th 1994 at Good Samaritan hospital. My family consists of my mother, father, and brother. Growing up was as idyllic as one would suspect. In my pre-pubescent years we moved several times bouncing from Oregon to Washington in search of “gods’ plan” for us, finally starting a church of our own in Lubbock, Texas. The church siphoned our time and money to the brink of poverty. Through the eyes of a jaded 5-year-old, everything was but a perfect utopia, neither a problem nor a care in the world. Mother was a stay at home at the wife, dictated by the church, whilst father worked odd jobs donating what blood and platelets he could muster that week to pay…
