Angela Lee Duckworth's Analysis

How often college students think about being succeeded in college? What is the key to success? Angela Lee Duckworth, psychology professor was interesting this question and started to do research about it. Before she was a psychology professor, Duckworth taught math in middle school and high school. In her Ted Talk she notes: “What struck me was that IQ was not the only difference between my best and my worst students. Some of my strongest performers did not have stratospheric IQ scores. Some of my smartest kids weren't doing so well. And that got me thinking. According to Duckworth: “It may be obvious that effort and stamina are required to accomplish anything worthwhile in life. Less gritty students are, in contrast, more easily discouraged, prone to take “naps” midcourse, and frequently led off track by new passion” (True Grit by Angela Lee Duckworth and Lauren Eskreis-Winkler, 18). In the other words, an effort and stamina are required for college students to reach their long-term goals. Students who have a lower level of grit more easily discouraged and a lack of strong grit might make these college students give up and leads off track by new passion. For instance, I interact with highly ambitious students in this college. I have changed to become more ambitious than I was before. I now see failure as an opportunity to improve, to do better. And as I have noticed, when this semester started in my English writing class were much more students, but after the first assignment to write essay some of them dropped this class.
