According to the Human Society, “there were a total of 1,880 cruelty cases that were reported in the media in the year 2007. Out of those 1,880 cases 1,212 were dogs, 337 were cats, and 470 were other animals.” According to CNN a 27 year old, Andrew Burnett, was sentenced to three years in prison for tossing a woman 's small dog, who seconds later got hit by a car, into oncoming traffic. Three years was the maximum the judge could give Andrew. Even though Andrew did not spend very long in prison and apologized for what he did, it still shows that people do take it seriously. McBurnett, the owner of the dog said “I would have gladly taken a bullet than have my dog killed in front of me.” McBurnett saying this does show that many people love their animals and would not want them dead. Animal abuse does not just happen to common house pets they also happen to farm animals. Farm animals can include horses and goats, which can also be a pet. According to the Human Society “Of the more than 2million Americans who own horses, more than one-third have a household income of less than $50,000.” This means that the owners could have problems paying for food or getting what they need to take
