Power will lead to corruption. Power is an evil which plagued the modern system. Power has a correlation to corruption. This is a world-wide phenomenon in the modern era, also the past. Power given by a group to an individual will inevitably corrupt him/her. Over centuries, it has become evident that, leadership can result to corruption and disorder. Power can corrupt any living being who takes the role as a leader. Adolf Hitler was corrupted by his thirst for leadership and subjugation, which led him to destroy a race. When power is given to be taken by an individual, corruption is the inevitable conclusion. The leadership role given will be misused and abused, to such an extent that the empowered individual will be reluctant to lose power. Power and corruption are fundamental themes which are profoundly emphasized in George Orwell’s novel, Animal Farm. This theme is also, emphasized in Joseph Stephenson’s film adaptation titled, Animal farm.
Inspiration is one fundamental element for leadership. It is said that, “Inspiration can be achieved by giving people an honest picture of the proposed program in such a way that they will realize what its successful completion will mean to them” (Henshaw 271). A leader would have a mentor or a role model, whom he/she will follow and adopt the notions, policies and philosophies, and apply to their environment. With regards to George Orwell’s Animal Farm, inspiration influences the leadership techniques of Napoleon and Snowball. Old major’s inspirational philosophies of ‘animalism’, influenced the animals, hence the rebellion at the farm. “Old Major's teachings into a complete system of thought, to which they gave the name of Animalism” (Orwell 6) Old major’s follows the policies of Karl Marx, whose policies concerned equality of people and integration.
