Sometimes when We watch the animals in a captivity jumping through a flaming hoop or stand on its hind legs, it's easy to forget about all the abuse that the animals have been through. The animals may not like to do these things that we human feel amused about. They may prefer their own habitat if they had choices. To quote actress and animal rights activist Tippi Hedre ,I've had a love of animals from birth. I love getting to know other species. We should all be aware that there is not one thing we can give a wild animal in captivity that they need. Many people think that zoos are preserving endangered species or subspecies, but in fact they are wrong. 95% of animals that are kept in zoos aren't endangered. 97% of these animals aren't part of the European Captive Breeding Programs, and less than 1% of endangered animals have been introduced back into the wild. It is no surprise that elephants don't do well in zoos at all. The average lifespan of zoo elephants is about 16-18 years, while wild elephants can live 50-70 years. The major problem with zoos is that the animals who live there are kept in enclosures that don't allow them to live their lives in a natural way. No matter how big some zoos try to make the enclosures, no matter how many branches they put in them, no matter how beautiful they make the background paintings on the wall, they don't compare with the natural habitat the animals were meant to be in. Zoo animals have to spend day after day, week after week, year after year in the exact same enclosure. This makes their lives very boring. If the animals are kept in zoos, their skills will be lost. The cheetah, for example, is the fastest land animal in the world, but when it's confined in small cramped cages, it isn't able to run at those speeds. Therefore, the skill won't be needed and it will eventually wither away. You
