Pros And Cons Of Keeping Animals In Captivity
Keeping animals imprisoned, in a cage, or tank for most, if not all of their lives can be traumatizing. Imagine if that was you; going from being free in the wild and being able to do and eat when/whatever you want, to being in a cage and having your whole life on a schedule not to mention having to deal with these creatures looking,poking and studying you all day long. Kind of sounds like going to school doesn't it?
Fellow supporters agree that keeping animals in captivity should be illegal due to high mortality rates that are caused by the emotional and physical abuse that animals endure while kept in captivity.
A piece of evidence supporting this statement is that according to a 3-year study, 255/300 elephants surveyed, 74% of them were overweight or borderline obese, 25% had joint problems, 67% had foot problems and almost 80% had behavioral tics such as head bobbing and pacing. Also, …show more content…
A piece of supporting evidence is: in 1999 Tilikum (Shamu) stripped his trainor, bit off his genitals, as well as having bite marks all over his body; the report was released out to the public as the trainer dying from hypothermia but according to his family that is not what the autopsy showed. Another piece of evidence is animals sometimes escape their enclosures which endangers themselves as well as people, (there's been incidents of zoo animals eating other zoo animals).
