Anna Lockwood: A Short Story
There was so much more to life than work, so people would tell her. For as long as she could remember, Anna Lockwood wanted to be a police officer, and not just any officer, but a homicide detective. She’d immediately taken the route from school straight into the academy. One of the reasons for her passion was that her father had served as a small town sheriff, she’d ridden along with him when she was a teenager. Despite the influence he’d had on her to begin this line of work, he was one of the main people who told her there was more to enjoy than just her job. In fact, he found it worrying how much she worked. Anna didn’t know the meaning of procrastination; every night she would work late, weekends, holidays. She’d only been working there a few months, yet she was managing a load of work for an experienced officer.

Anna’s father now worked in a bank, it was certainly a good change of pace, for him. Anna couldn’t imagine giving up her job for anything in the world. Over the past two weeks she’d been told that there was an opportunity for her to move to homicide. She’d caught on swiftly and had been able to adapt with ease. She was a perfect candidate. Finally, she was going to reach the place she’d been dreaming of for so many years. Part of

“It’s not a big deal, I get paid extra and it’s fairly quiet.” What Anna hadn’t told her mother was that it was her first night in a practice placement for the homicide team. They’d told her that there was a new case and they needed extra hands; this was her lucky break. She would have to prove herself to be irreplaceable during this time. No doubt it was related to the recent articles about a new serial killer that had just been linked to several crimes. Anna couldn’t wait to begin; it would be her first real case. This is what she had been training

“I find you, Alice Dubson,Guilty of the murders of Sarah, Jonathan and Tyson Dubson” the judge's words reverberated through the courtroom causing searing tears to well within her now glassy eyes and her to shake her head while incoherently screaming “no” as if she was a broken record player. Her body was trembling as continued to scream at the judge who merely smirked at us while fondling a disgustingly thick roll of money under his podium. Her screams echoed through the halls as we were dragged away by four disgruntled officers. “Stop screaming you stupid little girl” I roar causing her to go silent in fear while tears continued to stream down her pathetic little face. As we passed the jury their disgusted glares…

While lying on the grass in the front yard, I imagined the exciting night ahead. Before long, Taylor and his girlfriend, Kara, arrived and picked me up. Almost immediately, I stood up and sauntered in my Duke sweatshirt and basketball shorts over to their car. I jumped into the backseat. Immediately, I was assaulted with the strong smell of perfume that had been sprayed inside the car because it belonged to Kara. Tonight instead of driving, she decided to let Taylor drive illegally without a license. As we drove off to Erik’s house, the rendezvous for tonight’s “Goatman” adventure, we saw a police officer had just pulled a car over. As we drove by, we breathe easier and relaxed because we didn’t see any more cops on the way.…

Jennifer Thompson was a straight-A student at Elon University in Burlington, North Carolina. She had her life all planned out: maintain straight A’s, graduate with a 4.0 GPA, and marry her boyfriend, Paul. Jennifer said frightened “Who is that? Whose there?” I said, “Allowing myself to think it must be Paul, or someone playing a stupid joke” (12). Then suddenly she looked and saw a stranger in her room. Before she knew it, she was getting raped. During her attack, she made sure she paid attention to her attacker’s features and his voice. The rapist began to hiss “Shut up or I’ll cut you!” he hissed, “while clamping a glove hand down her mouth” (12). He proceeded to brutally rape her, with a knife at her throat. “I’m afraid of knives.” I told him, “I can’t relax until you put it down. Can you put it outside? On my car?” (15-16). Jennifer stayed as calm as possible, trying to remember as many details about her assailant as she could, until she managed to escape. She tried staying calm and having conversations with this man and stayed calm the entire time. When she had the chance and knew he wasn’t there she began to run and was shouting for help. As she ran screaming to the top of her lungs a nice family opened the door and let her in. They took care of Jennifer and took her to the hospital. Through an inept summary and analysis of Picking Cotton, readers will be able to understand key points throughout the book, and determine why or why not they should pursue reading the book.…

    Kristin’s Death

This case is based on the death of Kristin whose author is her father. Michael Carter was Kristin’s ex-boyfriend, his past criminal record demonstrates how easy it is for criminals to get away with murder. I’m going to go over some of his past criminal record to demonstrate how Michael Cartier should have never been set free in the streets, and to demonstrate how many opportunities our justice system had to put him away in jail before he committed more crimes. I believe that the best way to present Michael’s criminal history is by covering some of the many encounters he had with our justice system prior to murdering Kristin as well as the consequences for his actions. The first arrest was 1998 for burglary, when arrested Michael was sentenced to six month in jail. However, he never served any time for this crime. Followed by a sledgehammer rampage in 1990. Another incident where our justice system failed to put Michael in jail was on March 28, 199I when another of Michael’s violent abuse victim called his probation officer. The probation officer “told Rose to get a restraining order” (Stillman, 2010). Rose Ryan sister mentioned to the probation officer that Michael had a gun in his possession, this led the probation officer to obtain a warrant for Michael Cartier’s arrest. This didn’t stop Michael from attacking rose with a pair of scissors. When Michael was finally picked up by…

At 4am dispatch received a call from the resident at 137 West Alexander Drive, who claimed to have heard a scream from his neighbours house. Captain Jason Long turned the case over to Officer Brice Tyler, Officer Lily Rayne, and I. At approximately 4:30am we arrived at the house knocking on the door. The young man answered with a smile on his face. I had noted that he seemed wide awake, as if he had been up for some time, as he invited us inside. We told him of our cause of being there, and he immediately told us the old man was visiting his sister in another town. He did not give us more details. instead, he showed us that the old mans belongings were exactly in there proper place. Afterward, he asked us to sit down in the bedroom, chatting easily about his evening. Soon after, he seemed to become agitated, raising his voice and speaking angrily. He was soon pacing and hitting the table, threatening us to make us stop agonising him, even though we did not say a threatening word to him.…

I was shot near my heart. My partner Ali Safdar had heard rumor about my life being in danger and he kept a close eye on me. He saved me just in time to let the bullet miss my heart by an inch.
