At the beginning of the movie, Bruno is completely naive about Germany patriotism. It has the audience curious because Bruno live in Berlin where is known as the capital of Nazi Germany. He at first thought the concentration camp as a farm where he could possibly meet his potential playmate. It is surprising when Bruno is unaware of the Nazi’s propaganda against the Jews. Assumingly, Bruno and Gretel are going to a public school where Nazis ideology was educated in the early age. Even with an overprotective mother, Elsa, Little Bruno must have seen the inequality in Berlin such as benches at the park labeled as “Aryans only” and the Jews being rejected from using streetcars in Berlin. As a German boy, Bruno must have witness the scene of “der Führe”, the leader, passing the city with their expensive car. However, it is the opposite with Bruno, instead of acknowledging the Nazi activities, he is utterly impractical about what is happening in Germany during the 1940s like the children today.…

For the live theatre show, I decided to watch “A Christmas Story, The Musical” directed by Valerie Easton at Vancouver Arts Club Stanley Industrial Aalliance Stage. The show focuses on a child named Ralphie, who wants a Red Ryder BB Gun for Christmas.Valerie’s production captured the happiness and cheerful atmosphere during Christmas and also focus on emphasizing Ralphie’s desire of a BB Gun as his Christmas present. During the show, I was impressed by many design and technical production elements. For example, the quick changes, the adequate use of theatre stage and also the use of sets to change from fantasy and reality. However, the most striking elements to me are the set piece of Ralphie’s house and the sufficient use of rigging system.…

In the movie, A Street Car Named Desire, Blanche uses the quote, “I don't want realism. I want magic! Yes, Yes, magic! I try to give that to people." to explain her desire for her fantasy life to become reality. Blanches fantasy life would restore her youth, forgive her past and she would be more welcomed by people like Stanley and Mitch. I do agree with her statement, and believe that living in a “fantasy world” for a short period of time can be beneficial, but I do not agree with the circumstances Blanches is doing so by. Blanche wants to forget the death of her husband, the termination of her position as a schoolteacher caused by a discovered affair with a high school aged boy and the loss of her childhood home and plantation. Some of…

On October 18th I went and saw The Rocky Horror Show at the 6th Street Playhouse. The show was playing from Sep 20 to Oct 13 and then got extended to show on Oct. 18th, 19th, 25th, 26th, and the 31st .The 6th street playhouse acting company did a marvelous job taping into their characters and expressing the emotions for every situation their character had. This play was based off of a movie called “The Rocky Horror Picture Show” about a very innocent and nonsexual couple who gets in a car wreck late at night while it’s raining. After this car wreck the couple goes to a house looking to borrow a phone and end up running into an alien transvestite mad scientist who has been building the perfect man to be his sex toy. With this man being born on their arrival the couple was in for a strange, magical, sexual and frightening experience. This large group that lived in the house seemed to love singing and wearing little clothing. In their time in this house they both lost their virginity, seen many deaths and in the end were able to escape alive as two of the aliens traveled back to their home planet “Transsexual Transylvania.”…

In the commencement of the play, Blanche is quickly described as a damsel in distress. She is portrayed as a wealthy woman “in a white suit with a fluffy bodice, necklace and earing of pearl, white gloves and hat…” (5). She resembles an embellished white moth. The fact that she is forced to live with her younger sister Stella and her domineering husband truly shows that Blanche is in a truly desperate situation. Her overall character is depicted as a traumatized woman that is in complete desolation. Experiences such as witnessing her family on a “...Long parade to the graveyard” (21). Being forced to live with your family until their tragic demise would emotionally and mentally torment anyone. She lives inside of her own world in which she…

William Gibson's play, The Miracle Worker, illustrates how people who triumph over hardships can succeed in achieving their goals. The play follows Annie Sullivan, a half-blind northern young woman, as she travels to Post-Civil War Tuscumbia, Alabama in order to teach Helen Keller, a blind and deaf little girl. When she arrives in Alabama, Annie meets Helen's family members; her father, Captain Keller, is a stubborn, commanding former Civil War captain and her mother, Kate Keller, is a young, overly protective woman, both of them have kept Helen almost as a pet because they did not know what to do with her or how to treat her. In order for Annie to succeed in teaching Helen, she has to battle with Captain Keller's stubbornness, Kate's overly protectiveness, and Helen's combativeness.…

“Oklahoma! Where the wind comes sweeping down the plain.” These iconic song lyrics are from the chart-topping musical Oklahoma!. This musical introduced, the now idolized, Richard Rogers and Oscar Hammerstein (Brockett pg. 462). Rogers and Hammerstein wrote the musical, in hopes of making it on Broadway. Instead, they wrote a musical that started the next great era to sweep through Broadway. The Golden Age of Broadway was the beginning of a transformation that would later lead to one of the most recognizable parts of New York City. It altered culture and how things were presented to the public eye. The era began in 1943 with Oklahoma!, having a lasting impact and impression which inspired Rogers and Hammerstein and other composers and playwrights…

A Christmas Carol, both the play and the movie, have many similarities with just as many differences. Although the movie was created as a follow-up to the play, there were many times where the movie was completely different. On occasion, there would be times where you could follow along to the movie with the script, but most of the time, it would be somewhat the same. The script compared to the movie is more informing and fills in empty holes. Although watching the movie is easier, in order to get all of the facts straight, it would be better to read the script or see the play.…

Based on my reading thus far, Blanche proves the most antagonistic characteristic. She is sister of Stella and came to meet her unexpectedly. She lost her husband few years earlier and she is a social pariah due to her indiscrete sexual behavior. She also seeks for people attention and wants them to complement her. She has bad drinking habit which she tries to hide from everyone. Blanche's flirtatious behavior causes a lot of problems in Stella and Stanley life. Blanche displayed cunning, manipulative, and mendacious types of personalities which makes her antagonist.…
