Meaning not every college student is necessarily your average student as stated in the article. The author discusses that students carrying guns are more likely to be white males, engaging in risky behaviors and binge drinking, be in trouble with the law, and attend college in southern and mountain states. And I feel he is right, because down south your average student that would be more likely to have a gun is a male that usually would be into hunting and came from a very country background, other then a black male for instance. The policy that is trying to be enforced on campus that there are no concealed weapons allowed may not work. This policy may not make students feel safer its just kind of there for a safety blanket. The next bet step to making these students on campus feel better may be to setup a more stricter plan to crack down on these concealed weapons. Plans such as making it mandatory to do room checks at least once a month, and maybe have more police on foot around campus. This may help the student feel a bit safer. I think the crackdown to be more strict on campus with concealed weapons would definitely help the campus students feel more safe and not have to worry about walking alone or even just walking to class in general. Just a few little things could make a big …show more content…
Many colleges think they can just do what they want in the sense of rules on campus, which is just about right, but they can only go so far. Due to the second amendment it states that we as humans have the right to bare arms, which means we can carry weapons but with the right permits. So colleges can go ahead and make rules as to guns on campus but according to the amendment anyone that is of the age and is allowed to can carry a gun on them in public. Weather or not they use it in a safe matter is the problem that comes up. But most students on campus that carry theses guns have been through thorough background checks and piles of paper work to be able to do so. Therefore carrying a gun on campus is legal but to an extent but these students should be monitored and have a close eye on them, because you never know what is going on in there

In the article “Students, Guns and Politics” by Allie Grasgreen, she describes the debate on college campuses whether or not students should be allowed to conceal carry firearms. It seems that Grasgreen’s position on the debate is neutral, she cites arguments from both sides but does not take a stance herself. In my opinion, I do not think the best course of action against gun violence is to necessarily evoke a policy such as conceal carry, since this allows more access to firearms and their presence on a campus community. Though I do understand that gun owners have their own rights, I just do not see the necessity, and I believe there should be more steps in general for people to obtain firearms. Even if there was perhaps a situation where…

It still does not determine how each student feels about CC a firearm on campus. Though both Aaron, and Taylor attend small universities and feel safe on their campuses. They still feel students who have a concealed carry weapons license (CCW) should be allowed to carry their firearm on campus. This was the next question I wanted to answer. Taylor Beavers who was a 2015 graduate of Slippery Rock University in Pennsylvania with a degree in Physical Training (PT), also agrees with being authorized to CC a weapon on campus if one possesses the licenses to do so. SPC Beavers is also an Army veteran, and she feels that being in the Army has an encouragement in why she would support the idea of allowing conceal carry on campus. Slippery Rock University is also known as SRU, has about 10,000 students enrolled in their institution. Compared to Taylor and Aaron’s college it is rather big. So one can see that size really does not matter in this case. There was one response out of all my interviews that raised a red flag. Hannah Burras a Nursing major at The University of Toledo was not on board for carrying a firearm on campus. “I do not feel that students should be allowed to carry a firearm on campus... I would never even think of taking a gun into an area that was set up for educational purposes.” Hannah shocked me with this response because she also has her CCW license, yet…

In my opinion, carrying a handgun into a college or university is not necessary for a student. Because college and university is not that kind of dangerous zone where need to arm weapon. College and university are supposed to be a place where student to study. That should be the only reason that student should worry about. However, with the “New Campus Carry Law” passed, student now need to aware of avoid some circumstance which could bring them to face the death line. This new law I could say is not fair to everyone. At first, its can’t be 100% student will carry gun into campus when people need to be at least 21 years old who obtained a concealed handgun license (CHL) to have a gun. So, all the freshmen who attended college or university…

How safe are students on campus? Today, many universities state-wide are gun free and considered safe locations. According to David Skorton and Glenn Altschuler's article, "Do We Really Need More Guns On Campus?," "colleges and universities are far safer than most public spaces in the United States." However, there are others who believe colleges would be safer with concealed gun carry. A group, Students for Concealed Carry on Campus, who goes against this idea argues in their article "College Campuses Are Less Safe Without Concealed Weapons" that a professor that is licensed shouldn’t be obligated to be a victim when they have the right to defend themselves. The argument doesn't mention how permitted gun carry would only possibly stop shootings…

Guns provide many people the ability to feel safe and protected, while other guns are constant reminder that some freedoms are taken too far. Guns privileges are abused, misused, and mistreated. Young people glorify toting weapons like it’s a new fashion statement. Missing the fact, that what in reality is causing uproar and panic amongst everyone else. That is why I feel like guns should not be allowed on college campuses.…

Imagine a student or instructor being allowed to bring a gun to campus. Imagine what would happen if that student or instructor were having a bad day or had a major disagreement with someone. The possibility that something disastrous could happen is quite real. Measures should be enacted that address such a situation. By banning guns on campuses, tragedies can be prevented. Guns should not be allowed on college campuses because they will increase violence, raise the number of accidental shootings, and create a mood of fear on campuses.…

This paper will determine whether guns have a place on college, and school campuses. The conclusion that the paper reaches is that students who have guns will be tempted to use them, especially at universities and colleges that are full of drug use, stress, and anxiety. The mixture of guns into a formula like that is simply not conducive to a safe environment. This paper will take evidence from experts, as well as state rulings to show the two sides of gun control in regards to school campuses in order to answer the question: Should guns be allowed on college campuses?…

Also, in many campus shootings, professors and students could not defend themselves because those campuses were regulated to be gun-free areas. Though gun-free areas are designed to be safe zones, these shooting sprees show that they are not always safe. In fact, only criminals take advantage of such rules (Burnett). I agree with the idea that professors and students should be permitted to carry guns on campus to protect themselves.…
