Vaccines prevent people from contracting illnesses or giving illnesses to others around them. Especially in schools where some children might not be old enough for the next booster, it is important that those around them have been immunized to the fullest extent that they can. For example, the Meningitis vaccine requires a first dose between ages of eleven and twelve but cannot be completed until the age of sixteen. ostracized by other children or parents that regularly come in contact with them, and is not ethical whatsoever to put a child in that position. (Childs)
Vaccinations not only save lives, but money too.
Dr. Frieden, Director of the Center for Disease Control and vaccination supporter, stated that “Stopping outbreaks where they start is the most effective and least costly way to prevent disease and save lives at home and abroad – and it's the right thing to do." (Report) And he is correct, “According to analysis by the CDC, hospitalizations avoided and lives saved through vaccination will save nearly $295 billion in direct costs and $1.38 trillion in total societal costs.” (Report) Some of the more expensive vaccinations run around $100-$150 which could seem expensive and not worth it at face value, but it is far less costly to immunize when one is looking at a long hospital stay or even death of a loved one.

While there are rumors in the media of supposed risks from immunizing, the benefits outweigh these risks by far. In 2006 there was what seemed to be a link between the Measles and autism that caused parents to stop vaccinating their children , but even now that the risk of autism is proven false, parents still refuse to vaccinate under false pretenses. (Childs) Some people, especially in rural areas, are even scared that the vaccine is made up of a live or active virus and believe that the immunization itself could cause an outbreak, but with proper vaccination education these people can learn that that is not plausible as the vaccination is a dead virus. Even with the slight risks, it is more valuable to have a healthy and safe child than the $100 vaccine.
