(1) Severity of AS is defined from aortic valve area (AVA), which represents the orifice formed by cusps of aortic valve, in combination with flow rate, pressure gradients and other cardiac function characteristics. Accurate determination of the AS severity is crucial for the course of the disease and the choice of treatment. In addition, patients who are unable to take the risks of conventional open valve replacement, are referred to less invasive transcatheter aortic valve implantation
