Ap Chemistry Reflection
1. A class that I believe was most particularly significant to me is AP Chemistry. Prior to enrolling in the class, I was mostly breezing through school without having to put in a considerable amount of time for homework and studying purposes. A few weeks into the course however, I had realized that this class was not going to be even close to the ones I have taken before in terms of the rigor and depth of understanding required to succeed. Now that I have finished the course, albeit with a B first semester and an A second semester, the experience that I have gained from this class cannot be found elsewhere. The class allowed me to rejoice when it turns out that I was able to answer even a mere part (a) of a free response question, as problems were involved and required a lot of effort for understanding rather than simple memorization. AP Chemistry has undoubtedly aided me and expanded my …show more content…
All of the sciences relate to the practice of medicine. For example, when examining a specific drug or medication, chemistry is involved because of the specific elements and bonding location (e.g. cis-trans isomerism) involved, causing the mechanism of action to be one way instead of the other. Another example would involve biology, where in biotechnology scientists are able to create designer babies through eugenics, editing and manipulating the genes of an offspring. Physics is involved in a particular instance like receiving an MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging), where strong magnetic fields, radio waves, and field gradients are used to form images of the body. Many other subjects are also vital to the practice of medicine including statistics, which allows us to organize our data in a way that we could understand the results and draw a conclusion; psychology, which allows us to understand behaviors and disorders (cause) that lead to the production of medicine (effect); and calculus, which allows us to calculate the rate of change of the surface area of a growing

course usually taken during the first college year. For some students, this course enables them to undertake, in their first year, second-year work in the chemistry sequence at their institution or to register in courses in other fields where general chemistry is a prerequisite. For other students, the AP Chemistry course fulfills the laboratory science requirement and frees time for other courses. AP Chemistry should meet the objectives of a good college general chemistry course. Students in such a course should attain a depth of understanding of fundamentals and a reasonable competence in dealing with chemical problems. The course should contribute to the development of the students’ abilities to think clearly and to express their ideas, orally and in writing, with clarity and logic.…

Throughout my school career, obtaining good grades has always been a value my parents expected of me and therefore also have been a value I’ve held for myself. Getting the best out of my education is a goal I set for myself every school day to ensure that I’ll have a bright future. Also taking rigorous AP and CCP courses are an essential part of my academics. Challenging classes such as the AP and CCP courses enabled to reach my potential and push the limits of my education. These classes have not only helped me prepare for college this coming fall, but they have also allowed me to be ahead of my peers by getting some college credits out of the way before graduating high…

Taking three AP courses in my junior year was the best, most challenging decision I have had to make in my academic career so far. Being passionate about an advanced education, it was an easy commitment for me to make, however the workload that came along with each AP class had me stretched thin. I am extremely appreciative to the AP Readiness Program that was offered at UCLA for providing me with the resources to succeed in each of my classes.…

My school only offered AP classes to students who were seniors. As a Junior, I wanted to challenge myself, and prepare for college, so I decided to self-study for an exam. After doing some research, I decided that the best AP exams for me were AP Microeconomics and Computer Science. These topics were interesting and were applicable to my prospective careers. I found an online course for AP Computer Science. For AP Microeconomics, I bought an AP exam prep book. Though my aspirations and goals were great, being committed them was a true challenge. I still had to keep my regular school work and activities as a higher priority. I was able to keep track with AP Computer Science for the first semester, but I tried to get through its lessons and assignments…

The single most impactful experience in my life is attending Ventura Community College. Nothing has hurt me more. In high school I had taken AP and IB classes and had finished within the top ten percent of my class but I had no idea what I wanted to do. I applied to some schools that I considered to be mediocre so that I could continue swimming, but as the application deadlines ended and most of my friends were being accepted to places such as UCLA, UCSB, and even Harvard, I had realized that I wanted a greater challenge and possibly a greater reward. It was too late, I was going to community college.…

Honors Chemistry was always a pleasantly productive period. A typical class block entailed only a lesson and worksheet; for example, I would speed through a stoichiometry worksheet, ensure that I understood limiting reagents, and find myself with half of the period to occupy. Some days I would finish homework for other classes, while other days I would browse scientific journals on my phone. Occasionally I would use this time to “do math,” which, for someone without much of a background in the subject, meant toying with a calculator and graph paper until the bell rang.…

In the Movie The Verdict many legal issues were presented. Some of the legal issues witnessed were: medical malpractice/negligence, judicial misconduct, witness tampering, the confidential relationship between lawyer and client, and perjury. I felt that the movie did an accurate job depicting the moral dilemmas that can occur involving court cases that go to trial. In order for everything to run smoothly, the lawyer must be well prepared and maintain a confidential relationship with their client and vice versa. The case witnessed was a negligence case, which I believe to be a pretty common lawsuit nowadays. Generally the people who are getting sued, if enough money is available, will do whatever they can to sway the case. This moral dilemma is of no help to the injured party or their family. I was able to learn that not all judges are fair and can easily be bought, just as well as the witnesses, regardless of how wrong the defense is.…

Each of these experiences has had an amazing impact on my life in one way or another. Graduating from high school was a big deal for me as well as my family. I was the first of my grandmother’s grandkids to graduate from high school. After graduating from high school I worked hard and paid to rent my first apartment. Having my own space and becoming independent was something I have always wanted because I had to share everything growing up. I have two beautiful daughters whom have changed my…

For a very different reason then most of you have given, my most valuable course was Algebra. I had been out of school for quite some time and had completely forgot how to do an algebraic equation. I had tried to take the class on-line at one point and withdrew. I was petrified of ruining my GPA. At a later date, I attended class on site and had a wonderful instructor that actually taught the class. You didn't have to google how to do it. This class taught me that I can do something that is completely out of my comfort zone. I still today remind myself that I can successfully accomplish things that I know nothing about. I received an A- in that class.…

It was such a relief to not have to stress too much about this class because I knew I could work on it when I had time. Throughout crazy weeks, multiple projects and more I never had to spend a great amount of time worrying about turning my papers in. I could create my own schedule which is such a unique thing to find in schools. Also, like I mentioned before, the class gives students a chance to learn more than just where to put a comma. This course teaches self-dependence and that for a good grade all you have to do is complete the work and do your…

As a freshman, I have only been able to take a few courses in the college of Letters and Science but the ones that I have taken I enjoyed. My favorite course so far was Bio-150: Introduction to Biology. The material from this class was interesting and it opened my eyes to other fields of biology. My favorite part of the course was applying what I learned in lecture to lab. Every week, I would look forward to having smaller class discussions with my TA and lab partners about the material and our lab experiments. The lab challenged me to think further past basic information which helped me better understand the course material. My classes are not only giving me a strong base for my education but they are also teaching me valuable lessons such as critical thinking, communication, and team work, skills that will be critical in my future.…

The introductory classes definitely helped instill the fundamental knowledge that I use everyday. The concepts taught in CSE8A & 8B, CSE12, and CSE100 are probably the concepts that I most look back on and use. If any undergraduate student asked me what classes were most important, I would definitely say that those are the top four on my list. Another class that I have found to be surprising useful is the CSE110 Software Engineering class. The class introduced topics in software development, including the process of development, cycles of development, and software design. Since I’ve begun working in software development, I’ve realized the importance of the development cycle. My company’s software development cycle is based on the Agile Manifesto. We currently have a system where there are two weeks sprints, where you develop for two weeks then there’s a showcase where you show what you’ve done. Showcases allow for developer to get feedback earlier on how something looks or how it was implemented, that way they can fix it sooner rather then…

A significant education opportunity that I have taken advantage of is the choosing of my classes in my senior year. As a senior, I was given the opportunity to choose my schedule for the year. Here I could choose electives that would be easy A such as being a teacher aide. But instead, taking advantage of the multiple science courses offered by my school I chose to double up on sciences for my senior year., I chose to take both AP Biology and AP Chemistry. I did this over taking an easy elective such as being a teacher aide because I knew that I wanted to be challenged throughout my senior year. I have also overcame an educational barrier within my highschool years. Specifically, in AP Chemistry, my teacher has back problems and has missed…
