College is more than fretting of countless student loans and losing sleep over endless classes. It is about finding companions, interests, and one’s self. Although college can become quite costly in both time and money, it should be seen as an investment rather than a waste. College opens students up to various opportunities which in turn helps the student gain friends, experience and also could spark interest in careers or hobbies. Attending classes and school functions promotes friendship which can lead to lifelong companions. By going to college, one tends to become immersed in opportunities that they enjoy and possibly could make a career out of. Wide variety of opportunities become available to college students including internships, clubs,…

For most students, Senioritis won’t appear until the later years of high school, most likely the end of junior year and of course during the senior year. For the most part, I don’t think people just become lazy and de-motivated overnight but Senioritis is more of a thing that you adapt through your high school years. Many students try to make their senior year the easiest by doing everything they can for the first three years, so when their senior year comes around you’re not totally swamped with schoolwork. Usually, some seniors get out at the end of fifth period, and some are out of school after lunch. Despite contracting ‘Senioritis’ many students don’t get Senioritis because they’re just so pumped to get out of high school and keep moving…
I am currently attending a diverse public school at Early College High School. Early College is inside of Horry Georgetown Technical College, so we are required to take college courses. When I graduate from Early College, I will receive two years of college and an associate's degree with no funds. In Early College, every student is required to take an AVID class. This class is ascertained with students that they are ready to handle college, current classes, and career fields I am interested in. Early College gives students to make the most out of students success in my future career.…
An educational opportunity that I have taken advantage of is joining the Citrus College Honors Transfer Program. By joining the Honors programs, I get to join classes are rigorous and demanding, which provide me with an environment close to a class someone might take at a University of California campus. The Honors courses that I have taken so far have all challenged me to become more of a conceptual learner and critical thinker. This has benefited me, because the habits and skills that I have formed by taking these courses have helped me become successful in my other courses as well. The honor courses I have taken has foreshadowed the type of curriculum I would face at the University, and taking these honors courses has better prepared me…
When most student are asked about year-round school they think it means giving up their summer, but that’s not exactly right. Year-round school doesn’t necessarily mean giving up summer vacation. There are variety of calendars school districts follow. The current school year is based on an outdated agricultural model, when families need to use their children to help them with a harvest. Most families aren’t like that anymore. It’s time to update the school calendar to reflect modern society. Year-round schooling calendar would be beneficial to students.…
An experience that makes me proud during my first year of school was failing. It was a wake-up call, a realization that I could overcome a difficult obstacle due to the mistakes I had made. Therefore, I dedicated all my time to make-up all the classes I received low grades in. I pushed myself to persevere and not become a high school drop-out; I refused to be labeled a failure. I worked twice as hard in the classes I had received low grades; so when I was taking them again I would pass with a better grade I would be satisfied with. I managed my time efficiently to give myself enough time for each class and receive help when I asked certain teachers who offered tutoring. I took advantage of all extra credit assignments when offered, I believed…
My own struggles through academic courses in America provided me with expertise which taught me how to rise through adverse circumstances. During my time in high school, I started volunteering at the STEM Academy where I would teach young kids and participate in extracurricular activities with them. My personal academic struggles inspired me to help young kids who might not have the same help that others receive. The immense amount of satisfaction I receive by volunteering at the STEM academy teaches me to push through my academic success and accomplish my…
My educational career from my freshman year at Saint Louis University High School although with some difficulties has in my opinion been a great success when I look back on it. In my freshman year, I was really challenged academically by my classes but managed to push on with the help of my teachers and friends who knew I could succeed if given some help. My sophomore year was a bit easier now that I had adjusted to the normal homework, I still had a tough time but found a love for my history and English classes, I also found myself becoming more sociable compared to my grade school years. My junior year was likely my hardest year but I believe I learned the most about what I wanted to do in regards to a college degree in my Psychology class.…
The experience that had a big impact on my life is going to medical camp. The medical camp was held at our local hospital. The camp allowed me to tour the hospital and speak to workers in various positions throughout the hospital. To get into the program I had to write an essay and have a GPA of 3.5 or better. At camp I was the youngest and the only African American there. While there it opened up my eyes to many other jobs in the hospital that interested me. Prior to going I wanted to be a Pediatrician, but while attending I found two other professions that interest me. The first profession is Occupational Therapy. Occupational Therapy is for people who go through surgery or get into an accident and try to relearn activities of daily living…
My interest in education is the reason I have great confidence in my ability to succeed in the college environment. As a member of the National Honor Society (NHS), I know what hard work is. I have participated in several academically beneficial programs with my school including: NHS, student council, the junior planning committee, and the college excel program. These programs have trained me for the pressures of the real world, forcing me to multitask in order to meet various deadlines. It has allowed me to become a well-rounded person. This will help me in the future with the strains that career may place on me.…
High school classes might have seemed better in the past compared to college. You might feel more comfortable in smaller classes than you would heading off to university, but that is simply from the comfort of your surroundings. You are familiar with your teachers and your closest friends are always by your side. This might create a friendlier environment, but branching away from the only things you have ever known will help you grow as an individual. Leaving home to start your life as an adult can be tough; however, learning every day responsibilities and making new relationships are two things that will benefit anyone who is getting ready to enter the “real world.” Students benefit more from college classes over high school classes because they learn responsibilities and create new relationships which help them to gain independence.…
During this class I have made two self- discoveries that will positively impact my career goals. Those self- discoveries has helped to mold, and shape me into a student that I have never thought I would be. Those discoveries were that I am an organized learner, because I made a study plan to help me determine when, and how I would study. Being that I have five children, I had to make sure that I had set a schedule so that my course work including study time would not affect my family time and take away from spending time with my children and fiance`. Since these are the competing priorities in my life right now learning to obtain trust and consistency in the home while I have been attending school has also improved because not only do I see my success so does my children and fiancé. Knowing that I had that support also has made it possible to do my best in school, setting the pace for them to do the same in school also, whether it be good grades, sports, etc. I know that they will continue to be good at what they do and have proven to do so time after time.…
Education has always been one of the most important things to me, and I am dedicated to learn as much as humanly possible. Throughout my high school career I have challenged myself by completing six advanced placement classes and taking other honors classes. I have taken these classes as a way to help guide myself for what is to come in the future in college. I was inducted into the National Honors Society during my junior year of high school, and I graduated with honors. Both of these successes are the two greatest accomplishments of my high school career. These two achievements prove how dedicated I was, and still am, to getting the best education I could. My quality of dedication will stick with me throughout my future endeavors.…
My participation in Student Government has taught me important leadership skills I will be able to carry with me throughout, not only my college career, but my nursing career. Sports has taught me that hard work, discipline, and teamwork will not only defeat any obstacle that comes my way, but with the help and encouragement of others, we can come together as one and get the job done. My extracurricular activities have taught me that with the aid of others anything is possible. Through my community service volunteering at a local housing company for the mentally disabled, I have seen first-hand what the impact one person can make on another’s life. Helping and mentoring the mentally disabled who can’t do some tasks on their own has touched my heart and changed the way I appreciate life in many different aspects. It just reminds me of how fortunate I am to be able to help other, despite the time it takes to do so. The overall time I have sacrificed to do these extracurricular activities inside and outside of school has all been well worth it. Overall, the life lessons I have learned and the change in character I have gained from these activities are gifts I will be able to carry with me in able to achieve my goal.…
