Ap World History Dbq Mongols
The Mongols conquered and controlled most of Asia during the early civilizations. Unfortunately, the manner in which they acquired this land was ruthless and barbaric. The Mongols started out as simple nomads grazing the pastures. They lived in steppes and had to learn to survive the harsh temperatures there. The different tribes often got into disputes over land for their animals and fought very often. This made the Mongols tough mentally and physically. The military was extremely organized and well trained because of strict disciplinary rules. Their strong military is the reason the Mongols were able to conquer vast portions of Asia, as shown in document 1. Consequences for those who broke these rules were brutal and most of the time ended in death. For example, document 2 states that if all of the soldiers didn’t retreat together than all are put to death. Also, if some soldiers get captured and the others don’t go after them, then they will be killed. This shows that the Mongols are going to fight until they …show more content…
They had no mercy for anyone who was in their way and would do anything to win a battle. In document 3, the Mongols brought children and women onto the battlefield to give the appearance that their army was larger than it really was. These harmless children often got caught in the crossfire and were killed. Doc 3 also states that “sometimes they even take the fat of the people they killed and, melting it, throw it onto the houses” (doc 3). To retrieve the fat, they would need to cut upon their already dead victims and savage through their insides. In addition to this, doc 5 shows a picture of Mongolian soldiers shooting an unarmed man with a crossbow and others being buried alive. For the Mongols, being buried alive wasn’t bad enough because these people were buried alive upside down. This is tremendously graphic and shows how the Mongols don’t have any boundaries when it comes to

First off, the Mongols were barbaric for their high murder toll. They participated in the destruction of human beings, such as themselves mainly because they were not followers. “ 30,000...30,000...700,000...1,747,000...1,600,000… Few survivors… no survivors… 800,000-2,000,000.” (Doc. 4). That was the death toll from 1220 to 1258. The mongols murdered over 6,107,000+ people in a 38…

Anonymous monks in Novgorod, Russia recorded the event of a Mongol invasion and the horrors that came with it, writing “They likewise killed the Knyaz and the Knyaginya, and men, women, and children, monks, nuns and priests, some by fire, some by sword, and violated nuns, priests’ wives, good women and girls in the presence of their mothers and sisters… And we, indeed, having seen it, were terrified and wept with sighing day and night over our sins…”. We can probably count this source as reliable because it was written by Monks, and it is in their religion, which by they live their life that they should not lie. In a letter to the Great Khan from Pope Innocent IV, another religious source, he writes “and with a fury still unabated you do not cease from braking the bonds of natural ties, sparing neither sex nor age, you rage against all indiscriminately with the sword of chastisement.”. His tone is almost accusatory, but there is fear and disbelief at what the Great Khan has done. We cannot mark this source as reliable, however, because in his letter he writes “according to what we have heard”, and therefore has not witnessed anything he is accusing the Khan…

How barbaric were the Mongols? Well considering that the definition of barbaric is to be savagely cruel, seems pretty harsh to refer to anyone or anything as being barbaric. Although even though this word is harsh, the same word is applied to the Mongols. Mongols were thought to be evil and savage people. Invasion wasn't the only tactic the mongols used.…

There were many great warriors throughout the Middle Ages, however none so prominent as the Mongols. While the Carolingian “war machine” conquered a sizable expanse of land, it was a miniscule feat when compared to the enormous empire the Mongols ultimately created. Though they prospered for a relatively short period of time, they succeeded in generating a lasting impact. The traditional stereotypes of the 13th century Mongols were influenced by stories from Russia, China, and Persia, which insinuated that the Mongols were barbaric raiders contingent upon destroying everything in their path. This perception is not entirely true, while the Mongols were still a fierce war machine,…

When the Khubilai Khan and his Mongols came for China, they did so with great force. The two armies met on the North China plain, the armies of Jin numbering 10,000 compared to the Mongols cavalry of some 200,000 horsemen. Once the obvious outcome came about, the Mongols moved south and defeated the Sony army with gun-powder based weapons that they had borrowed from the Chinese, who did not expect them to be used against them. Once Khubilai Khan had finished the ruling emperor of that time, he began his full conquest, allowing his armies to plunder, destroy, and kill as they pleased. They brought violence and destruction to all aspects of China’s civilization, being very insensitive to their cultural values and government. From the bottom up, the Mongol invaders eliminated many Chinese institutions, their civil service and government to name a few. Since the Mongols only perceived China as just one section of their vast empire, they discriminated greatly against the Chinese, creating a caste system with the Mongols at the top, followed by the Islamic population, and ending with the conquered Chinese. Another political reformation brought by the Mongols to China was that no Confucian scholars or native Chinese were eligible for any positions in their government. The Mongols had changed the Han Chinese way of life greatly.…

Document 4 tells about the Mongol attack on the city of Nishapur. They tried to use everything they had to protect themselves against the Mongols, but they were no match for their vicious ways. By nightfall the city was full of the Mongols, and they were commanded that not even a cat or dog should be left alive. They would sever the heads from bodies and place them all in giant piles according to gender (Doc 4). This shows how ruthless the orders given and soldiers were of the Mongolian army, and how barbaric their thoughts and actions were. The Mongols made sure that after they conquered, no history of them would be just satisfactory (Doc 6). The Mongols also made sure that none of their leaders were short of anything important or any important news. The messengers would ride as much as 250 miles in one day just to make sure the leaders had all the news they needed to know (Doc 8). No messenger would dare to face the wrath of a Mongol who believed he was not aware of everything of importance.…

The Mongols had many important aspects, but their strength lay in their strong military organization. The Mongols believed that good fighting came in quality of fighting not quantity, so they had smaller armies of very well- trained soldiers. Most troops were no bigger than 1000 people. The Mongols also believed that the commanders and leaders of the troops should be chosen by other leaders as they would probably have the best votes. They also had very thought out perfected plans. One of the commanders, Subedei is known as one of the smartest military masterminds because of his use of intelligence and psychological warfare. The Mongols had a very strong military organization, but they also had many other strong aspects as well.…
