This period is famous for the expansion of civilizations to new areas, spread of major world religions such as Islam and the decline of the Western world. Even through there was less trade compared to civilizations of Middle East and China, Europeans increased productivity of crops that led to urbanization and specialized commerce. Farmers made use of new technologies such as iron plows. Banks were established in Italy and Germany, which helped the trading activities between different
countries. And since there was no central government such as the Roman Empire, merchants and trades possessed greater freedom in trading. European culture was mainly developed from Christianity. Christianity quickly

throughout Europe and emerged as the most popular religion. Since majority of people followed the preaching and ideas of the Christian Pope and priests, kings and lords often converted to Christianity in order to accomplish their goals and gain the favor of citizens. Most of art and architecture in Europe was devoted to the Christian Church, and European literature always included references to religion. Writing in Europe was limited and consisted of Latin that was primarily devoted to theology, government and law. Islam was a continuation of ethical monotheism.
