To allow Odysseus to get into his home without being recognized Athena disguises him as a beggar, and then as his plan continues he begins to slaughter the suitors. If Athena had not helped Odysseus by causing the suitors to miss their target each time they attempted to fire back at him, then he would have surely been dead fighting against so many puissant men. Without her constant help Odysseus would have never persevered through these tasks he so brashly went through, including this one. Making Athena the true hero of this story.…
When I was deciding on a character, right away I chose Athena. I chose Athena because I believe she is the most interesting (besides Odysseus) character in the book. Speaking of Athena, Athena is a very important character in the first few chapter of the Odyssey. She is the one who puts Odysseus's son on the path to find Odysseus and learn what is his faith. She did this by showing up to Odysseus’s house in human form and convincing Telemakhos to call all of his mothers suitors in front of the gods and try to convince them to leave. When that didn't work “Athena was nearby and came to him, putting on Mentor’s figure and his tone,” and told him that she will find him a boat She told him to sneak out of the house and go down to the docks to…
Being too protective is a weakness for Athena because she is known as the Goddess of the City, protector of civilized life. She protects her city from outside enemies, who threaten the city’s threshold. Another weakness is that she is sometimes prideful. An example of that is when Arachne challenged Athena to a weaving contest. Arachne’s weaving showed the Gods/Goddesses in a disrespectful way, so Athena destroyed her weaving. Out of humiliation, Arachne committed suicide and Athena took pity on her and brought her back to life. As Athena brought her back to life her pride blinded her and she turned Arachne into a spider. Athena’s protectiveness can be a strength because when she protects her city it drives her to fight better. Athena being prideful can also mean that she knows what she’s capable of and she’s confident about her choices. Athena is the strongest Olympian because she turns her weaknesses into strengths that she can use as an…

The tummy tuck or abdominoplasty happens to be one of the newer procedures in the history of plastic surgery. The word plastic comes from the Greek word plastikos meaning to mold or shape something, but the history of plastic surgery goes back as far as 4000 years. Well before the time of the Greeks plastic surgery became common place in ancient India before it traveled among the Persians and Arabs to Egypt and then to the Greek and Roman empires respectively. Although the history of plastic surgery goes this far back, the abdominoplasty procedure came about in the late 19th century.…
In “The Odyssey”, Odysseus uses many traits on his twenty year journey back to Ithaca. Odysseus and his men fight the Cyclops, Sirens, and resist their temptation of the Lotus plants. In order to be a famous epic hero, like Odysseus, one needs to have numerous traits. Odysseus’s traits are strength, intelligence, and self confidence. These traits help define Odysseus as a hero and save his men from many close encounters with mythical beings.…

Vietnam independence was achieved through conflict, since western powers responded to anticolonial movements by declaring war two times: 1946 and 1965. During World War II, France lost control of Vietnam because the country was defeated by Germany (722). Due to the France defeat, Vietnam had a weak internal government, which resulted in the invasion of Japanese’s forces into French Indochina (725). In 1946, France declared war against the Communist Party of Vietnam, led by Ho Chi Minh, who was fighting for liberation of colonial power (“The Cold War in Asia”). The war lasted 9 years and it resulted in the creation of two nation-states: North Vietnam controlled by Ho Chi Minh and South Vietnam controlled by Ngo Dinh Diem and supported by…

Zeus was the king of all the Olympians, as well as the god of thunder, weather, and omens. Hera was Zeus's wife, and she was considered the ideal woman. She was also the goddess of marriage and family. Ares was Hera and Zeus's son. He was the god of war, and he was widely disliked by the other gods because of his quick tempered-aggression and the way he needed to have conflict. Aphrodite was the goddess of love and beauty, and she used this power to her benefit. Her mother, Hera, wanted her to marry Hephaistos, the god of fire and crafts, but Aphrodite had other plans for herself. She had affairs, including those with Ares, Hermes, and Dionysos, Hermes was the god of trade, wealth, luck, language, and travel. He was incredibly clever, and he was also the messenger to the gods. Dionysos was the god of wine, merriment, and theatre, and he was described as the most colorful of the gods. Demeter was one of the oldest goddesses, and she looked over farming, and was compared to Mother Nature. Artemis was the goddess of hunting, and her brother Apollo was considered one of the favorite gods, being the patron on civilized arts. Poseidon was Zeus's brother, and he was the god of the seas. He also brought earthquakes and destruction when his temper got the better of him. Hades was the other brother of Zeus, and his job was to maintain the dead and the…
