On a daily basis, any professional practice, may it be in the medical field or not, is faced with a lot of issues. In line with this assertion, this paper will seek to explore and apply middle-range theory to problem on physician-nurse relationship.
Summary of the Problem
The physician-nurse relationship has been and continues to be the most disappointing and unfortunate issues because many nurses have become victims of disruptive behavior, angry outburst, and verbal abuse coming from several physicians at both of the facilities where they are employed.
Peplau's Theory
In order to solve this, the Peplau’s Theory should be used. Considerably, this theory is appropriate to the identified problem because its …show more content…
122), it was Florence Nightingale who pioneered nursing practices which have become guide for nursing schools and hospitals to develop in the 20th century. That is why theories of nursing were integrated by practicing nurses and academicians throughout the years. To Puchalski (2001), nursing theorists like Roy Callista were the reasons why nursing practices have survived. In fact, both Roy Callista and Robert K. Merton paved way for other middle-range theories to emerge.
How Middle-range Theory is Applied
Previously, Peplau Theory, as one of the mid-range nursing theories, is applied with the interpersonal interaction between the nurse and client (Nursng Theories, 2011). Hence, the relationships between the two are strengthened with how they communicate with each other. Aside from that, this theory is used in order to help nurses to understand their own behavior and use human relations to resolve problems, as the case may be.

By incorporating Peplau Theory, physician-nurse relationships can be enhanced. To do this, Gonzalo (2011) argued that in the orientation phase, nurses should seek assistance. That means that they have to ask questions so that physicians are able to share their preconceptions to the latter and subsequently provide for the service needed by the patients. Nurses should also be able to work interdependently with the physicians in the identification phase (Gonzalo, 2011). In the exploitation phase, both nurses and physicians should be aware of the various phases of communication in order to avoid misunderstanding (Gonzalo, 2011). In this regard, physicians should aid the nurses in order to ensure progress and reach the resolution phase when the patients' needs are met already.
Conclusion
Disruptive behavior, angry outburst, and verbal abuse coming from several physicians should be addressed because if not, it will endanger the quality care provided to the patients. It should be emphasized that any type of abuse and disrespect in the workplace should be avoided. This can be made possible by applying the Peplau Theory. Ultimately, physicians and nurses should communicate effectively and the former should not act superior over the latter because this can undermine the quality of health care that they provide to the patients.
