The chosen recipes complimented each other to achieve an entrée fit for one and used a variety of traditional Mexican ingredients and techniques in a contemporary way to represent the Mexican cuisine. Mise-en place was arranged for food preparation and the two recipes were organised in relation to their difficulty level. Therefore, the more difficult recipe was prepared before the simpler one with additional time to serve. Appropriate techniques such as frying the bean filling is a traditional Mexican technique as well the appropriate use of flavours/spices including; chilli, avocado, lime and beans brought together the elements and therefore make the dish authentic. In order to make it contemporary a basic recipe was chosen to show its simplicity for any Australian family to recreate as a family snack or even expand the portion size for an evening meal, furthermore, the serving platter added a modern twist through presentation and thus made the dish contemporary. One technique attempted was making home-made tortilla bread, however this component didn’t fulfil its purpose as the dough wouldn’t hold its form and would crumble when cooked.
