Are Celebrities a good role model?
Are famous people of today good role models? This is a very controversial topic and a lot of people have their own opinions. There are people, who believe that the famous can be good role models as many famous people do tasks such as helping out in 3rd world countries, giving money to charities and help out with sporting and charity events. However not all famous people are like this. Some just go out and break every law in one night from drink driving to excessive use of drugs. So can famous people really be considered as good role models to the younger generations?
One great example of a good famous role model would be actor Johnny Depp. Johnny Depp was born in Owensboro, Kentucky into a very unstable family of John Depp and Betty Walls. When he was only 8 years old his mother and father divorced, leaving him to have many stress related problems and as a result of this started to self-harm. This continued into his teenage years and eventually stopped when he met his first wife Lorri Anne Alison, this was also the start of his acting career and the start of him turning his life around. Depp then starred in many major films starting in 19884 with "Nightmare on Elm Street". In 1999 Depp and his new wife Vanessa Paradis had their first child Lily-Rose Depp. Unfortunately she developed a very serious kidney infection and as a result of this had to stay in Great Ormond Street hospital. She eventually battled off the disease and Depp could not have been happier and due to their help started to donate huge sums of money to the hospital to thank them. Since then he has gone to many fundraisers and charity events as well constantly giving away money to help charities that focus on children; showing that he himself is a great role model.
Another great role model is the Academy Award winner and human rights campaigner Anne Hathaway. Anne Hathaway has been nominated and won many awards and accolades for her incredible acting skills including winning an "Academy Award

We placed the zinc inside the beaker and slowly poured the hydrochloric acid into the beaker. As soon as the acid entered the beaker, there was a sizzling sound and bubbles started to form as we add more of the substance in. When the bubbles were forming, we could see a steam of gas coming out of the beaker. After 10 minutes, we noticed bits of zinc were floating on top of the hydrochloric acid and lining the beaker. I lifted the beaker and felt the bottom and it felt warm, which meant the reaction was still happening. After 20 minutes, we added water into the zinc and hydrochloric acid to stop the reaction and we observed a slight cloudy colour (still clear) forming as we slowly pour the water in the beaker.…

What makes a good role model? A role model can take on many shapes and forms. They can be someone that people look up to or even someone that a person strives to be. I think of my role models in almost everything that I do. I always ask myself, "what would my role model do?" It almost always steers me in the right direction. Most role models effect people in a positive way by something they do or something that they say. I've noticed that when most people talk about their role models they talk about prominent figures in history or our society such as Abrahams Lincoln or rosa parks. Both of my role models lead by example and that is what I admire most about them. One of my role models is not a prominent figure like those, but has still influenced me in a similar way that those people influenced others. It is not about how famous or prominent the role model…

First and foremost, it is an undeniable truth that celebrities extend an influence on us. According to Singapore’s local publication, The Straits Times, 80% of the population refers to celebrities when choosing how to dress or deciding what to purchase. This is solely based on what we see them being photographed in, in the media. In fact, celebrities undertake more than this, often utilizing their prevalent positions to instill healthy and beneficial change within our society. Take Oprah Winfrey as a classic example. She is an inspiration to young girls and women hailing from diverse backgrounds, across continents. Oprah has achieved more than influencing and inspiring others. She and her team successfully highlighted the issue of domestic violence, sexual abuse and racial segregation. Besides, in 2007, Winfrey started the ‘Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy for Girls’ in South Africa to promote the importance of education for under-privileged girls. Oprah is without a doubt, one of the greatest, and most sincere and genuine philanthropists in today’s society.…

A fictional character that directly influenced me was Oscar Wilde's Dorian Gray. Dorian taught me to never let the influence of others deflate who I am as a person. Dorian's trusting disposition was his true downfall. His looks only mattered to him once he had been fooled into valuing them. He taught me to never lose sight of who I am, or who I intend to be. The character Dorian Gray also taught me wisdom. I learned to determine who my real allies are before I allow the synthetic ones to betray me. Dorian's naïve attitude sealed his fate. From him I learned that trust should be the fore runner in all of my relationships. Dorian's countless transgressions and iniquities taught me to always concern myself with the preservation of my own integrity. Dorian's tragic tale forced me to create a code of ethics for myself out of fear that I could one day become the mishap that he became. In life, we must all slay our “dragons”. The most important part of slaying our “dragons” is the way that we do it. We must do this in a way that does not compromise who we are as human beings. Dorian allowed his self to be transformed into his own dragon, which eventually led to him slaying his self. In summation, Oscar Wilde's fictional character Dorian Gray from the book The Picture of Dorian Gray had a largely direct influence on me. Dorian Gray taught me to treat myself like a sentimental keepsake. He taught me to never allow the influence of others to taint my integrity and to trust my own moral compass. Dorian Gray made me who I am today, and without him, I shutter at the thought of who I would have been.…
