Are high school sports helpful or are they harmful to kids? There are many articles that will say that they are bad, and there are some that say they are good for kids. The article, Are High School Sports Good For Kids? talks about if they are good for kids. My reasoning is that they are good for kids because they can provide physical activity and can get them new friends.

People will say that they shouldn’t because they shouldn’t be injured at such a young age, or that they lose maturity, and that some don’t even get recognized for it. However, it does give them a chance to make friends, and there is protective gear to make sure that they don’t get hurt in any way.

One may be worried that a child may be left out by the coach or the other teammates ("Pros and Cons of Youth Sports Participation). According to Philips, children make more friends and build stronger relationships with teammates and the coaches rather than being left out (Philips 26). Injuries also play a big part in why so many people do not play sports at a young age. Actually, having this physical activity helps strengthen bones and muscles, which help make injuries happen less. People also believe that children will have too much organization because of having to listen to the coach all of the time instead of making one's own decisions and mistakes. Organization is good for younger kids because if there is no organization at all everyone will be out of control and not knowing what to do ("Pros and Cons of Youth Sports Participation"). Even though there are many things that could happen to children playing sports, there are always ways that one can do to prevent…

Many sports related injuries do not just happen to professional teams but occur on youth, high school, and college teams. Concussions, knee sprains, stress fractures happen often and are now considered common injuries. Parents do not get overly worried, like they should, due to the severity of these injuries that happen to their children. In reality, the real problems are how parents encourage their children to be extremely competitive on the field and play aggressively, the amount of traumatic injuries that occur on the field, and how it is affecting the futures of young athletes. These are the reasons why youth sports are becoming too violent to be safe for children.…

Sports keep teens well behaved at school and in class. Sports reduce the number of fights, and bad classroom behavior. In order to play any sport in high school, the students must make good grades. If they fail to make the grades, then they are either dismissed from the team, or they must take a study hall before each practice for at least 30 minutes, sometimes even for the whole day until his or her grade comes up to a passing grade. In most high schools, there are problems with attendance from the students. If a player does not come to school, then they may not go to practice or attend the game that…

John Wooden (NCAAB Hall of Fame coach) said, “Sports do not build character. They reveal it.” High school sports are usually beneficial to all parties involved, such as the athletes, parents and the schools that have the athletic programs. The athletes that play high school sports learn countless lessons on life, how to be healthy with exercise, and the extra incentive to keep up the grade to play these sports. Parents of high school athlete’s get an opportunity to watch their child succeed at something he or she loves. Parents can also benefit financially, when their child is good enough at a sport to get offered a scholarship which may pay for all of college. One reason high school sports aren’t beneficial is because they create a lot of pressure. According to the video “Do Athletes Face Unnecessary Parent Pressure?” by KCRA, sports are sometimes the only way students can get into a good college and be able afford it. This puts a lot of pressure on the athletes to perform at their best 100% of the time. Experts say that your child's entire team will suffer if the parents are pressuring their kids (KCRA.com, “Do Athletes Face Unnecessary Parent Pressure?” ). This fact is important because it proves, when parents put pressure on their children it does not benefit them, in fact it is actually setting them up for life in an unhealthy way. This shows that the pressure from sports is not good and not worth it.…
