The Merriam-Webster definition of a sport is “a contest or game in which people do certain physical activities according to a specific set of rules and compete against each other”. It’s a very complicated matter. In college it is not considered a sport. Although it takes physical skill, the cheerleaders aren’t competing against anyone so it can not be considered a sport in college. Other people might deny this because there are many cheerleading competitions out of school, which means that it would meet all the requirements to be defined as a sport. There have been many arguments over this topic, but at the end of the day cheerleading is still ruled as not a sport. Another highly talked about activity that is debated about is baseball.
