Argumentation Essay
In Sean Flynn’s article, “Is Anything Private Anymore”, he argues whether or not our privacy is being invaded and why we should protect ourselves. I honestly agree with Sean’s argument because it’s true how everyone’s information is being hacked. Privacy is a diminished subject for all citizens, which is being exploited or exchanged with different markets. Today, in our society people want to have as much privacy as they can, but unfortunately we can’t always get what we want! Pretty much everything that we do is being used against us either in a bad way or good way. America is supposed to be a country of “freedom”, but as you can see it’s really not. Since privacy is now set as a high demand people will do anything to gain information on another person.
Flynn’s first evidence is describing how employers do extreme background checks on people that they decide to hire. When you are younger you don’t realize that the pictures and comments you post on Facebook or any social medias will determine the career positions you will have in the future. You can have all your profile settings set to private, but companies/agencies have ways to enter your private social life without you knowing. Sarah Ball, a senior at Duke University, states, “You learn why posting pictures of you riding a mechanical bull at Shooters is a bad idea.” It’s a bad idea because employers will be very judgmental and stereotype you just for that “fun night” you had a while ago. This example is effective because it shows you how to be mindful of the comments and pictures you post online. Once it goes online it’s hard to delete it from the internet.
Flynn’s second evidence is how lawyers use the web and the world around us against us. Flynn talks about how divorce lawyers are issuing subpoenas for electronic tollbooth records to use in custody cases. One example he states is, “You say you’re home at 6 p.m. to have dinner with
