In light of former CIA computer professional and whistleblower Edward Snowden, it is shown that every move we make online or any conversation we have over the phone is being monitored and stored by the National Security Agency. Tapping into phone calls, text messages, emails, etc., which concerns the private lives of citizens, is an invasion of privacy. The NSA spying on citizens, an action led by the government, proves that we the people are not as free as we think we are because it can cause chaos and prevent people from being in control of their lives. As citizens, people think that they have the freedom to live their lives the way they want. The reality is that every, phone call, email, and text message is being monitored by the government. On September 11, 2001, four coordinated terrorist attacks were committed by the terrorist group Al-Qaeda. After the September 11 attacks, the National Security Agency (NSA) contracted with phone companies such as: AT&T, Verizon, and BellSouth to collect information about domestic telephone calls.
