Argumentative Essay: Do We Need A Standing Army
When it comes to the topic of military, most of us will readily agree that we need to defend ourselves. Where this agreement usually ends, however, is on the question of, If we need a standing army. Whereas some are convinced that having a standing army makes enemies, others maintain that having a big standing army makes us not have as many enemies and that we could defends ourselves the event of an attack. Although if you don't have a standing army you might not make enemies it is important to have one. Although once in a great while it might make you stay out of a war what if it doesn't? Believing that not having a standing army will make you not have enemies as some people believe is, like standing on train track thinking that the train

Now keep in mind that sometimes being able to defend or attack someone in a matter of hours can be life or death for not only you but for your whole nation. Do we really want to put the fate of your country on the line? I couldn't bring myself to put lives balance with that ignorant ideology. Some reason why I think this is when the empire of Japan attacked Pearl Harbor to get us into WW2. Japan knew that we stood in their way of taking over all of the pacific and then later moving to try to take us over. Yes we lost some soldiers and we weren't ready but even considering all of that we still were able to defend ourselves pretty well for a surprise attack on someone who wasn't even in the war. Then we were able to launch a counter attack within weeks after Pearl Harbor as seen in the movie “Pearl Harbor”. We also showed them not to mess with someone that has a strong standing army. Being able to defend ourselves then launch a counter attack quickly had a major impact in our morale as a nation and also boosted the Allied Powers morale. In the end of the movie Pearl Harbor the Japanese naval commander is seen after our counter attack saying “we have awaken a sleeping giant”. And man was he right. Our army grew in great numbers and we were able to launch a counter
