I am concerned for your student’s and for my son Luke Michael who now attends Shadow Mountain as a Freshmen. He has been sick and has had a few encounters with the nurse. My husband Jerry Michael whom you have spoken to, met the nurse Monday asking her to excuse him from PE for the week, she informed him that a doctor’s note was needed for a request lasting more than three days. Jerry took Luke back to the doctor and was told that Luke had Mycoplasma, the doctor wrote him a prescription for an antibiotic, a pass to discontinue PE for the week, and his diagnosis. Jerry came back to the school that day met with the nurse giving her the diagnosis, an excuse for P.E class, along with showing the script for the antibiotic. The nurse…

The white sturgeon has a slender, long body, head and mouth. This fish has no scales; instead it has large bony scutes that serve as a form of armor. There are 11–14 dorsal scutes, all anterior to the dorsal fin, and 38–48 lateral scutes and 9–12 ventral scutes on each side. The dorsal color of a White Sturgeon is gray, pale olive, or gray-brown. The fins are a dusky, opaque gray. The underside is a clean white. It has four barbels, used for sensing food, near its huge toothless mouth. Sturgeons are classified as a bony fish, but actually are more cartilaginous than bony, their internal bone structure being more like a shark’s. Sturgeon have changed very little since they first appeared, over 175 million years ago and thus have the appearance of a very ancient fish. Two imposing features of the White Sturgeon – the huge size reached by the oldest adults and the rows of bony shields – set this fish strikingly apart from other freshwater species in the province. Reaching 6 m in length, 635 kg in weight and over 100 years in age, this is the largest freshwater fish in Canada. Armoured relics from the past, sturgeon have remained relatively unchanged in structure for millions of years. The torpedo-shaped White Sturgeon has no scales. Its protective bony plates, or scutes, are arranged in five rows – one along the back, one along the middle of each side, and one along each side of the belly. The plates of young sturgeon have very sharp points, which become blunted with age. Its tail has a shark-like upper lobe, which is…
Despite the conflicting public opinion, Chris McCandless succeeded in his goal to survive in the wilderness and taught the world valuable lessons in the process. Chris McCandless “probably died on August 18th, 112 days after he had walked into the wild.” (119, Krakauer) He survived with very little gear and food, even though he was essentially cut off from the world. To have lived for a little over three months totally self-sufficient is impressive. Chris’s goal was to be independent and live off the land for a while. In his mindset, he achieved in his goal. Wayne Westerberg had employed Chris for two short amounts of time, but said “He was the type of person who insisted on living out his beliefs.” (Krakauer, 67) This was why Chris was determined to go to Alaska, instead of listening to the protests of others.…
MODESTO - Life is back to normal for the Calaveras Redskins football team. The 2014 season which saw the ‘Skins go 5-5 and miss the playoffs for the first time in 17 years, is in the rearview mirror. Calaveras, along with Mother Lode League rival Sonora Wildcats, the Ripon Christian Knights, of the Southern League, and California State Division IV Champion Central Catholic Raiders, took part in a three-day camp at Central Catholic High School, in Modesto.…
Imagine you're a 15 year old boy. You have been out all day, with your friends, or something that would make a great dinner time story for your family. You then come home to find you mother, father tied to chairs, and murdered. Afterwards you walk into another room to see your little sister and little brother, brutally murdered. Sounds like everyone's worst nightmare, but in this case it is one boys reality. Charlie Otero was in 10th grade when he discovered his family in his own home had been strangled to death. It was January 5th 1974 when we lost Julia Otero(the mother), Joseph(the father), Joseph Jr.(brother), and Josephine(sister). The killer said “i derive sexual pleasure from killing.” The police also stated that they found seman at the…
The Frontier Post, an English newspaper mostly based in the Middle East, released a particularly powerful advertisement in 2013 to promote safe driving. At first glance, it would appear that the advertisement is a picture of a firearm, front and center, placed in the spotlight of an otherwise gloomy backdrop. In reality, the advertisement depicts a set of car keys, cleverly arranged to resemble a revolver. Underneath the gun lies a very somber message, “Takes one life every 25 seconds, Drive Safe”. The bottom right corner displays the organization’s information, and the bottom left corner offers a citation for the hair raising statistic. One could quickly deduce that the Frontier Post was targeting people’s susceptibility to fear with this ad. The advertisement uses fear in order to evoke emotional responses to successfully fulfil its purpose.…
Rockabilly is one of the oldest styles of rock and roll. It blends rock and roll with the music genre of bluegrass and country music, with the rhythm of blues music. It can be known for “hillbilly” music, but with the influence it has on today's music, it would not be labeled for “hillbillies”, and yet it had the beat of swing. In the book, “The Appearance of the Electric Bass Guitar: A Rockabilly Perspective” written by Roy C. Brewer, He writes about the different basses that were used in rockabilly which gave the genres sound. He explains how in the early 1950s, rockabilly was popular due to the fact they were one of the first genres to introduce rock…

My family and I have been living in Glendive, Montana from last 10 years. Glendive town is the ranching and agricultural hub of eastern Montana, but my city has now become a radioactive waste disposal site for North Dakota. In order to extract oil and gases, companies have to drill the earth. Along with Oil and gas, they also get unwanted material, such as radioactive sludge, water, rocks, etc. All the extra material is something they did not drill for and it is something that is hard to get rid of as well. It can’t be buried back on the site, nor they are allowed to dispose it anywhere else in North Dakota.…
More than 11 million people illegally entered America looking for better lives, and good jobs. Illegal immigrants think that this journey across the border is worth it. I recently read the book “Enrique’s Journey” by Sonia Nazario. After, those 11 million people, 48,000 children went to meet their parents in America. These children had gone through a lot of abuse, loss, and loneliness to meet up with their parents. Over 11 million people that think this is important. We need to help immigrants, we do not need to reject and deport them.…
Censorship is diverse for many people. Censorship is a big problem and is known all over the whole world. It all starts with people over the whole world and it hurts people, kids, and students. Cather in the Rye opened me up to censorship and I think it’s not fair and it should not be allowed.…
The Loch Ness Monster: Fact or fiction? This question seems simple enough, but there so many factors that must be weighed that the actual answer is much harder to give. For a legend as old as the monster is, fact and lore blur into one story that any interested party must sift through before they have any hope of understanding of the truth about the Loch Ness Monster. There is no definitive proof for or against the existence of the Loch Ness Monster, but the few facts that do exist suggest it is possible for there to be a creature in Loch Ness. The facts presented are given so one may learn about both sides of the argument and keep an open mind about the Loch Ness Monster’s existence before making any rash decisions for or against.…
