Calaveras Argumentative Essay
MODESTO - Life is back to normal for the Calaveras Redskins football team. The 2014 season which saw the ‘Skins go 5-5 and miss the playoffs for the first time in 17 years, is in the rearview mirror. Calaveras, along with Mother Lode League rival Sonora Wildcats, the Ripon Christian Knights, of the Southern League, and California State Division IV Champion Central Catholic Raiders, took part in a three-day camp at Central Catholic High School, in Modesto.

“This camp was a great learning experience,” said senior quarterback Dylan Byrd. “We came out here not really knowing what to expect with the new contact rules, but it was just like every other year. We played some good football, made some contact, learned some new plays and learned some

With tackling being taken out of the equation, Calaveras was looking to focus on the little things that will make it better once the season starts.

“We improved a lot defensively over the three-days of camp,” Hodgson said. “We improved on our coverages and out play up front. The biggest thing early on is just knowing what we are doing and being in the right spots. Comminution is the biggest thing that we need to work in. If you aren’t communicating as a defense, you will not be in sync and everyone’s not reallying together. We have the athletes and the strength to make things happen, we just need to communicate a little better.”

“I feel like we progressed pretty well over the camp,” Weatherby said. “We need to pick up the intensity but at this camp is hard to because it’s supposed to be a non-contact camp. I think the intensity will come around.”

The final scrimmage Saturday placed Sonora against Calaveras, and Ripon Christian and Central Catholic stood on the sidelines glued to the action. Calaveras was on defense first, and a tackle on a Sonora running back made the atmosphere a little more tense. Calaveras matched Sonora blow-for-blow, and with every hit, players on both team began to forget about the non-contact

Each group throughout the camp is broken into about 15 to 20 kids each with 2 coaches and several high school volunteers to assist them. This incredible staff to camper ratio allows for unmatched individual attention. The other camp in town, Brunswick Baseball Camp, will have anywhere from 25-50 kids in a group, with only 3 coaches to account for all of the campers. This setup doesn’t cannot even compare to the level of individualized coaching that’s achieved at Cardinal Baseball Camp. This difference in organization of the two camps has caused for many parents to switch their kids into Cardinal Baseball Camp. Coach Mike Mora said that the camp gains about 4 or…

The team’s success was partly owed to the great deal of time spent practicing throughout the school year. They even practiced at Shenandoah Park over winter break. The…

The 8B football team came together for another great year of footy, and pretty soon the season had started and the boys began playing it out against the other teams. The first couple of matches showed how skilled the boys could be however, it lacked that team coordination and focus. This changed however when everyone settled in and started playing as a team, and the team lifted and began winning! Pretty soon the boys were confident and were having some extremely close games. This is emphasised when the team lost by just a few points against Geelong Grammars' A team, and they play exceptionally well with both skill and team coordination, attributes which were emphasised throughout the year. As the year progressed, so did the boys and they were…

I have been to many basketball camps since I have entered high school. After a couple of years they become routine for players. I got my first opportunity this summer to go to a football camp at CHadron University which I figured couldn’t be too much different than a basketball camp. I figured you played a few games, went to bed, woke up sore and repeat the process like in basketball. I found out that there are actually a lot of differences between basketball and football camps then people would think.…

This included checking every strap and button on our pads, making sure we had our shoelaces, and making sure everyone’s minor injuries were taken care of with the trainer. Normally we would have time to sit outside the locker room and hang out with all of our friends and joke around, but Coach Owens stopped that quickly today and made everyone go inside. As I walked into the quarterback meeting, some of our key plays were drawn on the board. These seemed all to familiar for me, because I spent the whole night before with Sam, our other quarterback, going over our playbook and knowing where everyone is supposed to be on the field for each play. The next meeting I had to attend was the special teams meeting. I was used to these since I had been attending these since my freshman year as a starter on varsity as both the kicker and punter. Everything was the same. Making sure every hole was blocked for field goals and punts, making sure no one over-pursued on kick-off coverage, and just making sure we got the kick off without getting it…

Our struggles weren’t coming from a lack of skill, they were caused by poor attendance and bad rehearsal etiquette. The next day, I gathered the band and started a discussion. I asked seniors to share their experience in band, their dedication, and what success means to them. I watched the seniors reflect on how they could improve their own contributions to leading the band. I outlined how we could improve our habits off the field in order to achieve the season that this band deserved. First, we prioritize rehearsal attendance. Second, we approach rehearsal with a mindset to improve together. Third, we treat every band member with respect and patience, whether giving or receiving…
