Animal Captivity
Industry slaughters more than 2 billion animals each year in the world. The reason as to why putting animals into captivity and using their skin as clothing is wrong is because more than four million wild animals are trapped and killed each year in the United States. Another reason as to why it is wrong because most of the time, the clothing made does not look good. Every year cows, pigs, sheep, goats, foxes, rabbits, raccoons, alligators, snakes, foxes, and so many other animals are slaughtered for the sake of humans wanting to look good.
85% of the fur industry’s skins come from animals living captive in fur factory farms. These animals are trapped and suffer for hours, even days, in traps, chewing through their own feet and going insane trying to escape the cruelty. Fur farmers use the cheapest and cruelest killing methods, including suffocation, electrocution, gas, and poison. Rabbits are hung by their legs, crying for help, while their fur is stripped from their bodies while they are still alive. Millions of dogs and cats are hung and strangled every year in China so that their fur can be turned into …show more content…
clothing. In addition to the suffering and deaths of millions of animals each year, the production of fur also contributes to land devastation, pollution, and water contamination.
The leather industry slaughters more than a billion animals each year for skin and hide.
Leather is the most economically important byproduct of the meat packing industry. Cows and other animals as well face extreme crowding, deprivation, branding, tail-docking, and dehorning without anything to suppress the pain. They are fed hormones to make them gain weight and given antibiotics to keep them alive in conditions that would usually kill them. Leather is also responsible for environmental destruction from the meat industry and pollution. Leather must be tanned to prevent rotting, releasing lots of chemicals into the air during the
process.
Many people believe that using skin from animals for clothing is harmless, but it actually involves pain and mistreatment, and the death of millions of helpless animals. The animals born into captivity are bred only for their skin, the rest of their bodies getting discarded. PETA- People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals- was created to help prevent and make aware of unnecessary animal suffering. People: wear animal-free clothing!
