Argumentative Essay On Boys Sports
Research shows that 6 out of 10 girls play boys sports, so think of more than half of the girls in your high school play boys sports. Girls should be able to play boys sports if they are capable of it. If they have to have special rules just to compete, there no point for them play with boys. Most girls see it, but do you see a 125-pound girl going against a 250-pound man in a football game? Kids between nine and eleven start creating stereotypes for each other. That means before kids can even start school sports, boys are looking at girls as they can’t do the stuff they can. Forever we have looked at girls as not being able to do the stuff a man can do. “Instead of having separate competitions, maybe we should have a mixed singles tournament?”(Neil Speed). If we had special tournaments to where females could enter and also compete with men. Maybe we could work up to creating a league for coed teams. Rather of discriminating women we can create leagues for them and …show more content…
If a girl expects to have a special privilege in a boys sport, they need to join a girls league. There is no reason for girl to join a boys league and expect special rules. This is one of many problems leagues like INFC(it's a league for kids that aren't in high school yet), have with girls and boys playing together. “The number of U.S. female high school athletes rose from 294,000 in 1971 to nearly 2 million by 1991”(William Dudley). The percentage of female athletes playing high school sports grow every day. Today we have sports like, Track, Cross country, Softball, Golf, swimming etc. that won’t be contact sports. Some high schools have girl football kickers and most of them do great, they lift weights, run with the team, but after all they are a kicker they are restricted to any contact in practice with the team. So that takes out the fact for a girl to get hurt also somehow it ends up in a poor

One of the key points to evaluate here is the argument that males biologically have an advantage in the majority of sports. In the vast number of cases this is true, however this should not be a reason why females are either discriminated against or feel pressurised to not participate in a sport. In a study done by McArdle, Katch & Katch in 1981, it was shown that among Western adults, men are around 50 percent stronger than women1. One thing that is important to point out here is that the average female has not been encouraged to participate in activities that would develop the growth and potential of muscles in the same way men have been encouraged to do. The stereotype that women should be slender and with little muscle does not aid this particular viewpoint on women’s sport. This leads on to the point of the history of female sport and the view on women’s roles in society. The earlier you go back in history, the more the viewpoint has existed that women are there to aid the husband in the house and bring up the children whilst he is out earning the money. This was very much the case and still is in some cultures, which inhibited and inhibits women from participating in sport because they simply do not have the time for it. As Spears (1978) said in his study, “Only the exceptional woman was involved in sport”2. I think it is fair to say however, that this viewpoint is quite clearly changing because participation in female sport is at an all time high at the moment. According to…

An issue that I have always been concerned with is how much attention male sports get, while female sports get pushed aside. Males and females put forth the same amount of effort and the same amount of hard work towards the sports they play, and in return males dominate the limelight. Arguments opposing this show that males are obviously better athletes than females. According to Mariah Burton Nelson, controversial activist and author, football, baseball and other manly sports in the United States are not games, but a culture which offer a pre-civil rights world where white men, as owners, coaches and umpires, still rule. In the manly sports, men learn to think about and talk about women in contempt. It is common practice for boys to be belittled as "wusses" or worse if they are not tough or brutal enough or willing to deny their own pain or the pain of others.…

Co-ed sports should be allowed. The teams would have the best of both genders on one team, there would be more competition to make the team, and there would be better opponents to make for better games. All in all, co-ed sports would benefit both boys and girls and would have more positives than…

I support the proposal that girls should be allowed to play on boys’ sports teams when there isn’t a girls’ team available. Girls, if their skill level is equivalent to that of the boys on the team, should be given the opportunity to participate in the sport of their choosing. By doing so, a girl has the ability to showcase her talent, learn to associate and work with the other gender, and help eliminate many stereotypes that run rampant through society today.…

There are many aspects why female and male athletes should not compete together. Although one reason may be because of physiological differences, societal barriers also prevent female athletes from competing with males. What it means to be male or female is one of the hardest things to decipher. This is one of the more bigger struggles between masculinity and femininity. One institution that specifically targets this idea of gender differences is professional sports. Women are challenged because of these gender differences to be accepted into a male dominated institution. Female athletes are encouraged and in many cases forced to under appreciate themselves by the media because of sports. Our society tends to under appreciate women who play…

Females have nearly succeeded in eliminating the gender barrier of an all males sport. Football was first formed in the 1800’s, and has been an only males sport, until recently. According to the World Book Encyclopedia, “football is a team sport played in the United States and Canada, it is played by two teams of 11 players each.” Also that, “a good football team contains strength, speed, and physical contact.”…

They start out as young as four years old playing T-ball, and progress through the high school ages where they can play on travel teams. Both girls and boys are allowed to play, but that hasn’t always been the case. Until the 1970’s girls weren’t allowed to play in little league, but after bowing to lawsuits and bad publicity, little league organizations ended their prohibition against allowing girls to play (L. Van Auken and R. Van Auken, 2001). Little league baseball has always been and continues to be an amateur sport. The fan base is mainly mothers and fathers who show their support by cheering their children on. There are many people who experience the games, but are not parents. These are people that enjoy watching for the best reason of all, the fun of it.…

    The Importance Of Title IX

Sports are very crucial and take part of a vast roll in people’s life. To some it is a stress reliever, fun game, or their entire life but sometimes there are situations that make you step back to evaluate what is actually going on. In a female athlete’s opinion male sports get more than what their sport or any other female sport would get but in a male competitor’s assumption is that they are both given the opportunity to do the same things especially with the Title IX that was put in place in 1972 stating that, “no matter what the sex is of someone, they can not be excluded from, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discriminate participating in any educational program or activity. Each physical activity is given money from the school, fundraises, and has a set fee at the start of each season…

    Gender In Sports

However the popularity of woman's in “men's” sports has risen, and in the majority of our society many girls are pushed to join sports, as much as boys are, such as soccer or basketball, and are placed into leagues where they gain experience for when/if they decide to join their school leagues. As time progresses, I do believe that sports will be seen as vital socialization for men and women, if not in the generation of my generations, children, then in their children. Those of my generation where sports have been a big part of their life, will wish to share that with their children. The joys of being on a team, learning how to cooperate and work with others, no matter how different is vital to human beings regardless of gender. The norm of sports being for 'men' seems to be shifting as more professional athletes are coming out with their sexual orientation. Gay men are often ridiculed and regarded as weak, or 'not real men' the players coming out or demonstrating, “I'm gay, yet I had a successful athletic career in spite of/regardless of my…

    The Same Team

The debate that girls and boys should be playing on the same team has gone on for quite a while. Boys think girls cant do most of their physical activities. On the other side girls think boys cant do most of their physical activities. This debate has gone on for such a long time, now it is just silly. Each side has their own opinions, but they can never agree with each other. I think girls and boys should be able to play on the same team, but we should give them that decision if they want to or not. What I am trying to say is that we should let them decide if they want to play on the same team with boys and girls. It's not us to decide if they want to or not. Their are many girls that are better then boys in physical sports such as baseball or basketball or even football. People, think the reason the guys don't want the girls on their team or the girls don't want the guys on their team is because they think one is better then the other. Yet the other person doesn't want them to prove it. Some people are given talents to do great things in sports but some people just wont allow them to show it. This is where the Olympics come in. In the Olympics men and women play on the same team and do the same sports with each other. I think the people that actually play the sports should decide if they want to play on the same team or not.…
