Children grow up believing in a man that flies in a sleigh with reindeer to every house in the world in a matter of hours, so we can ask, why can’t they be taught that war and power is good? Children can grow up and believe anything is good; this is the beauty of being a kid. All over the world, children are being brainwashed to believe war and killing people is an okay crime. Child soldiers should be given amnesty or rehabilitation. Children are being forced to serve as soldiers and fight in wars at extremely young ages. In the article Armed & Underage by Jeffrey Gettleman, the author states a quote “ ‘They don’t complain, they don’t expect to be paid-and if you tell them to kill, they kill’” (Gettleman, 6). They have to change their mind and body, to go to reality of the real world, instead of life in war. In the article Should child soldiers be prosecuted for their crimes?, the report stated how children need to be held accountable for the crimes they commit by more sufficient and appropriate methods, other than incarceration, empowering them to acknowledge their past and the crimes the execute. (should, 14). Rather than putting children in jail for murder, they should be rehabilitated so they can recognize what they did in the past was wrong. Because just putting them in prison for something they wouldn’t recognize was wrong wouldn’t be helping anyone; it would just be putting a short term solution on a long term problem. In the article Child Soldiers, the author gives “Demobilization and Reconciliation program, often abbreviated TTR and DDR, are far better ways of helping children recover and reintegrate back into society and out of war. The problem with prosecution is that it poses far too many problems” (Child, 18). A child from war needs to be pointed in the right direction instead of them having to dwell on what they did.
