Call Me Crazy But… A homeless man is seen pacing back and forth arguing with himself outside a local Wal-Mart, a few days later that same homeless man is found dead in the same spot. When people hear a story like that, it is automatically assumed that the man was a drug addict who overdosed. Little does society know that the person did not overdose, but had a mental illness known as Bipolar disorder in which caused him to decide to put an end to his own misery. Many of America’s deaths come from the homeless population, and from those deaths, the majority of them have been mentally ill who have commit suicides. Ex-cops acquitted in beating death of homeless man in California. N.p., 14 Jan. 2014. Web. 18 Apr. 2014. . I was able to watch a news broadcast about a schizophrenic homeless man who was beaten to death by two officers. I thought it would be a good story to add to my paper because it proves that having homeless mentally ill is a real issue and people are dying because of it. Sick people are being jailed instead of taken into facilities to be given the proper medical attention. Neglect is what America’s homeless mentally ill are …show more content…
The struggle that poor sick people need to go through to find food or shelter is ridiculous. I also read that even though giving them food, shelter, and the proper medicine they need is the right thing to do, it is also their right to refuse any help. That is hard to see considering that they are very ill and many have Anosgnosia, which is the reason why they are denying any help from others. In a mentally ill’s person head, they are just fine and don’t need help. Lastly, I learned that mentally ill homeless people are at the highest risk of rape, murder, and freezing to
