As a country we are facing a large problem: many war veterans are in a homeless state. It is a problem that we can merely push aside. These are people who fought for our liberty, and we, as a country, need to work to prevent this issue from growing, and we need to work to eliminate the problem. There are several factors that contribute to homelessness among veterans, and it is a problem, but the United States is beginning to work towards combatting this problem. Department of Labor has recently made a large step towards helping homeless veterans get job training. The Department of Labor has given $36 million in grants to help train 12,000 homeless veterans for employment (“$36M in job-training grants”). These grants are being distributed to different states around the United States. There are approximately 156 grantees which will help to create a diverse job opportunity field to homeless veterans (“$36M in job-training grants”). Grantees include organizations such as Goodwill, petroleum companies, volunteer organizations, and veteran support corporations (“$36M in job-training grants”). The state of Maine is pursuing a similar approach to help support homeless veterans and help get them out of homelessness. Maine has collectively put $2 million in federals funds to help not only homeless veterans, but to also help at-risk veterans. Portland will be receiving $1.6 million of the federal funding, and Washington-Hancock County will be receiving $290,000 of the federal funding. Lewiston is also receiving federal funding towards
