However, some law makers are speaking out against the restricted legislation. Tom Wolfe, governor of the Keystone State, discussed marijuana decriminalization on a radio show last summer: “There are too many people who are going to prison because of the use of very modest amounts or carry modest amounts of marijuana, and that is clogging up our prisons, it’s destroying families and it’s hurting our economy, so I think decriminalization is the first step”.
Also, State Senator Daylin Leach is combatting the laws prohibiting recreational use of marijuana. When a poll was released last month suggesting 60% of Americans is in favor of legalizing marijuana, Leach stated: “it’s time to stop treating the responsible use of marijuana has a criminal justice issue”.
So far, Leach has introduced three bills in the State Senate to legalize marijuana consumption in Pennsylvania. So far, to no avail.
Let’s hope the NORML branch will become more involved so Pennsylvania will be the 9th state to legalize marijuana.
