Dr. Mehmet Oz seems to discuss the subject of obesity constantly in his talk show, proposing a unique idea to solve the health care debate currently happening in Washington. It seems to be a big deal, since the U.S. President and Congress are tackling the topic. However, while they are focused on money, Dr. Oz brings up the importance of the content of our grocery carts.

The addiction Americans have developed for snacks and fast food is more than just a guilty pleasure. The statistics by Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) show that Dr. Oz has a point, and it’s quite scary. According to the data, 4 out of 10 adults dealt with obesity in 2015-2016. Comparing this result to the data of 1999-2000 shows a significant increase – threatening 30%, out of which 18.5% are young people!
What Dr. Oz finds to be particularly troubling is the fact that the government promotes and finances bad food, such as sugar, in place of fruits and vegetables. Given the fact that we are naturally drawn to tempting bad foods, the marketing is there to push us in the wrong direction. No wonder we find ourselves craving what’s not good for us.
