It would have made it easier to work on getting things done the right way. Back then, woman use to teach other woman the validity of woman rights. It is important to discuss woman’s suffrage today and how it impacted the United States. During this period of time woman weren’t able to run for president. Woman even supported the 13th amendment to abolish slavery and to gain full citizenship for African American’s and women. Back then they separated whites and blacks going to the same public school and more. Nobody was taking control of the action causing many things to happen. Slavery was still in effect and many woman gave speeches about slavery and the support for women. Men were only allowed to vote and that wasn’t enough to get equal protection. No president was allowing women to vote at the time. They didn’t want women to vote because they didn’t think women was into politics. Back then, they were being with their husbands to be represented. People thought that woman should be in their homes and be mothers. They didn’t want women to be represented as a citizen that study politics. Married women couldn’t own land or any money that they had earned. Lucy Burns was a women who wanted all women to have the right to vote. She went to prison in Virginia early 1900’s because she supported the federal amendment so women could have the right to vote. She believed that women deserved the right and responsibilities of citizenship like men have. During the early 1800s, many states had white men owning their own franchise. Not too many people had this opportunity. They use to plan meetings to discuss why women didn’t have their rights. Women should have their own idea towards politics just like men do. All men and women should be created equal. The first women’s right convention was located in Seneca Falls, New York. They gathered a meeting for the women to discuss the unfairness that was going on in that period of time. Elizabeth Cady Stanton was a women who met Lucretia Mott in London. They both put together a convention to discuss the issues that women were having at the time. They was having a private meeting for the first day and then it was supposed to be a public meeting the second day. Many people had went to this event. Elizabeth and Lucretia was denied to speak during the convention because they wanted the women who were invited to put in their input about women’s right. People even thought that they were trying to fix rights for the African American’s. Black women were treated unfairly due to this because they felt that they should have equal rights with men. They thought about having a convention was a waste of time. Elizabeth and Lucretia were leaders who was always in the women’s plan movement. Lucretia had an interest about woman’s rights. As a teacher her salary would be half of a male teacher, she was concerned and took action to learn more about women’s suffrage. Early 1800s, she got married to James Mott and was a member of the Quakers in Philadelphia. She also was traveling the world and speaking in other countries about slavery and why should it be abolished. Elizabeth also wanted to know a little about the voting rights. She soon got married to Henry Stanton. He was a lawyer and abolitionist. They both were members of the anti-slavery society.
Many women wanted equal right. Elizabeth Stanton fought for women to reform in marriages and divorce law. She died in 1902 and she have a statue of herself because she was a women who fought for women to gain equal rights with men. Lucy stone was also a women right activist. Many states were required that men were the only ones to claim their child. Early 1800s, laws had been made and women were able to have custody of their children as well as men does. If the couple were able to get married the women weren’t able to take custody of their property. It would be in the men’s handle. Some men weren’t able to obtain such a house whole because of the low pay they were receiving. Some were even staying out a little late to work off more hours to feed their family. Early 1800s, the minimum wage at a job would be low as 25 cents per day. Some women experienced the great depression. Many people lost their job because of the great depression. Men weren’t able to take care of their family. Women were depending on their men to work and come home with good amount of money so they could feed their kids. Women were required to have husbands that will take care of them and soon get married to have kids. Some men couldn’t handle it and it caused many problems. Some family sold their own children for some money to help the women and the men live. Women weren’t able to receive the same income as men. Men received more money at working than a women. Women weren’t allowed to work in some states. Many women have jobs that would be dangerous to work in. That’s why many women were staying at the house being a house wife for the men and kids. It was a struggle for women to gain equally citizens while qualifying for new programs. Women had an impact on the great depression. They were signing jobs to one sex type work then the other. Teachers weren’t getting paid to teach students. It was affecting many students from going to college. The pay was reduced for men. Women pay were rising. During the 1930s, women were able to work outside their home. It wouldn’t be no stress for women to work during the great depression than men. Some women were provided canned foods, mattresses, and a place to sleep. Most of the women were African Americans. Women spent most of their time working in factories and making clothing for the company so that they could get paid. Women used to sew clothes for their family but it would add to their family income. Many women and men relationships began to get stronger due to financial problems. The men were able to give space to the women to fill up the gap with their income. Men have a rate of major unemployment and needed orders to supply for their family. Deals were being offered to men to get help on income. Late 19th century women were able to find houses in a poor neighborhood in certain urban areas. Alice Paul was a civil rights activist. She went to a training school in England to become active with the suffragists. She formed the national woman’s party back in 1916. Her speeches gave people an idea of the 19th amendment and how it
influenced women suffrage. Paul was born in Moorestown, New Jersey. Early 1900s, Paul was studying and working on a case in the London house. She was able to have meetings and discuss women’s rights. Paul point was very clear and she always learned capitalize on the publicly. Paul also gave speeches about the equal rights amendment and informed to her group how it was important. Everyone should have equal rights because it wouldn’t be fair if one person could do or own something while the other can’t. It would be impossible. After congress had passed the 19th amendment, allowing women to vote, life had changed. Wyoming was the first state for women to have the right to vote. After this change, women began working more. Many women were going to school getting a better education. Some women didn’t have many children. All people were able to vote. The right to vote was protected by the congress to approve this act. Ida B. Wells was an African American activist that was in the movement during the women suffrage. Wells was born a slave back in the mid-1800s. She was a African American slave in Mississippi. She went to school and became a drop out at an early age. Her mother and father had died in a yellow fever outbreak. Wells always cared for other people. She was persuaded by a country school teacher that she could teach students. She began teaching at a country school. Late 1800s she moved in with her sisters in Tennessee and they all stayed with their aunt. She use to teach at a segregated public school that was located in Memphis. She was offered to give other people advice on why the women suffrage was important. She began to tell her story how she got fired as a teacher for the condition of blacks that was in the city. Due to this she began to write articles describing her life as a slave and why people weren’t able to gain equal rights. She was banned from Memphis and was told that she would be killed if she ever went back to Memphis. Wells began to discuss her lifetime events in group that were created by women to explain the conditions and how it was unfair. Wells got married to Ferdinand Barnett. They both had four children throughout their relationship.
