President Dwight D. Eisenhower sent the 101st Airborne division troops under the federal command to protect the Little Rock Nine because Governor Faubus was against the idea of allowing nine African American children to enter an all-white school. The Brown v. Board of Education decision helped public schools to be desegregated including Central High School. After Brown v. Board of Education, the racism and discrimination African Americans encountered in education was on display through the need for Eisenhower to call in the National Guard, the exchange between angry whites and Elizabeth Eckford, and the use of the federal government to enforce the court decision.…

President Eisenhower once stated in a speech, “I have issued an executive order directing use of federal troops”. This speech was directed towards the people of America, more so, the people of Little Rock, Arkansas (1957). The Supreme court officially ruled that schools in the south must allow the integration African-American students. With this ruling, the violence and hate only grew forcing President Eisenhower to take action. More Specifically, at Central High School, the epicenter of all the cameras, and hate. Central High School was the first Southern school to integrate nine young African-American students. It is fair to say that, the role Federal Government had was crucial to the integration at Little Rock for the following reasons. They provided safety, a sense of seriousness, unlike the state government that only provided a presence, no more than that. They did nothing to help the integration process.…

However, in Clearwater, Florida local high schools have been receiving bomb threats and fights have been breaking out at different schools in Pinellas County, Florida but that didn’t stop Christopher Bloom and Christopher Brown from bringing a gun to school. In our days it’s becoming more and more popular that there are people shooting up schools and malls. “She was met by a white segregationists mobs, many of them students who screamed, spat and threatened her” (Cornish). In America, there was a deep set hatred toward African-americans ever since the civil war. Especially in the South segregation was a major part of daily life, and they were used to it. The Supreme Court in 1954 ordered integration of school. Three years later in Little Rock at a school named Central High School, this plan was put into action. Nine student that year signed up to be at the school along with all the segregation with it. Even though some people believe the songs provide better background, the photographs and narratives helped provide the richest background information for understanding the…

The PICs decision does not live in a vacuum. It did not have an impact on “colorblindness”; however, it obstructed integration. It does have implications related to Brown v. BoE. In Seattle, the racial achievement gap in the schools continue to be significant. Less than 40% of black third graders were meeting or exceeding math standards (85% of their white peers were). Their reading tests had similar results: 53% compared with 90%. There is zero progress in integration in Seattle. Across the country, in Pinellas County, there was a drop in performance in five predominantly black neighborhoods. They had ratings of “C” or higher before resegregation (2007). They are now in academic failure. 95% of black students in the resegregated schools had failing scores on math or reading exams. (Yeomans, 2015)…

Many people, including the state governor of New Jersey Chris Christie, believe that having firearms on school campuses will be nothing but a disturbance to both students and teachers. "I am not someone who believes that having multiple armed guards in every school is something that will enhance the learning environment,” he explained, "you don't want to make this an armed camp for kids."(Portnoy) This is the most valid argument for the opposition of armed guards in schools because kids/students are the main focus of the issue. One of the most important things regarding education is whether students are able to go to school in environment where they feel safe. In some situations many students may be uneasy in the presence for firearms where they will simply be a distraction. But there are times when extreme situations call for extreme measures, and the protection of students across the nation calls requires extreme measures. Superintendent MaryEllen Elia of the Hillsborough County Public Schools in Florida said in a release to the lobby, “Let me tell you that I wish this wasn’t necessary. I wish we didn’t have to consider any of these strategies but the world has changed since I was in school. It changed again on December 14th.”(Byrd) Placing armed guards in schools is an action that people across the board are opposed to, but even Elia believes “We have a role and a responsibility.” that we should not “wait around hoping our students and staff are safe.” (Byrd) By reacting to the killings that have taken place across the nation Florida and many other states are taking steps in preventing more lives being…

This just goes to show you that school shootings can happen anywhere at anytime. How are we going to make schools safer for students? Gun control? Better security? Whatever we decide to do needs to happen immediately for the safety of the students. I think that we need better security at schools where it's harder for strangers to get it or making sure that students do not bring guns or other weapons to school. There also needs to be more gun control on who can get a gun or that parents need to have gun safes so that their children cannot get to them.…
