Art Analysis: The Lombard Street
The image I choose to talk about, it is a picture of the famous crooked street in San Francisco, The Lombard Street. I had a chance to visit and look at the structure of the street in person, and I was amazed by how it look. The street is located in the resident area, and it has nine turning points. The hill is natural 27% grade, the road is one side driveway, and the stairs on the side are for people to walk. The surrounding of the road are carefully decorated and maintained, the flowers, trees and the look of the house present the most beautiful side of the road. In my opinion, the street design is beautiful, unique and special; I can see the aesthetics in the surroundings. However, the history of the road reveals that the road functions …show more content…
The image presents a black and white style, and I believe that was the best equality photographic technology back in 1922. On each side of the picture, there are residential buildings or houses along the streets, but the left side of the image still has a lot of space. The street looks like is already in progress but not quite done yet because of there still is a lot of construction materials such as woods on the street. In the center of the picture, two men are chatting. It could be they are discussing the progress of the work, or the man with the hand rise are complaining about how the road affected the resident houses. In the picture, I sort of think that the houses or apartment were not in good selling position back in the day because of the slope of the hills makes difficult for cars going through. In fact, this is the truth according to a landowner of the area who claimed that the houses had lower property value due to the poor accessible condition of cars. It was the landowner came up the idea of the winding street plan. They made an arrangement of the residents who live in the area will pay for the maintenance, and it covers the fees of decorations and landscaping. That makes sense to me that the street right now is beautifully decorated, and well managed. It was not designed to be a place of interest in the fist place, but I guess the uniqueness and dedication attract people's attention to appreciated and view it as an

From a distance the tall structures blur together to form hard geometric lines and shapes. While the subject views the park from directly above, towards the outer edges, the buildings angle slightly to their respective boundaries. The structures almost seem to form a wave as they appear to increase in height as you look from left to right creating a sense of movement the photo. The bursting height of the taller structures allows them to cast shadows that aren’t as prevalent in the rest of the image. The urban landscape blends together in various shades of blue, red, and grey. The left and right edges are slightly bluer in tint while the upper and lower portions appear to have a rusty colour. There are hints of foliage towards the upper and lower left-hand side of the image, but unlike the park, are dwarfed by the expanse of the buildings that surround it. The omniscient view of the cityscape allows a unique perspective of this famous…

One of the most influential artists of the Modern Period of art was James Whistler. Whistler was an accomplished printer and painter and a brief background of the painter allows us to understand Whistler, and why more than any artist of his time, he would be attracted to Japanese woodblock prints called Ukiyo-e. It is also essential to understand the essence of Ukiyo-e, Japanese aesthetics and its migration to the Western world. Additionally, a chronological selection of Whistler’s works must be analyzed showing how he integrated the lessons he learned from his exposure to Ukiyo-e.…

The painting in the Mint Museum of Art Collection that I have chosen for my paper is titled Philip the Fair, by Kehinde Wiley. He painted this piece in 2006. He portrays a naturalistic style of an anonymous young African-American male model. It’s a larger than life painting standing one hundred and twelve inches by eighty-six inches tall. One must look up at the painting if not standing far enough away to view it entirely. This piece is an oil and enamel on canvas resulting in intense colors with a lustrous surface.…

This paper is a formal analysis of the Marble grave stele with a family group relief sculpture. It is a pentelic marble style relief standing at 171.1cm tall carved by a master. It is from the Late Classical period of Greek, Attic which was completed around ca.360 B.C. . I chose to analyze this piece as apposed to the others because I’m mainly attracted to art and sculptures from the Greek era. The overall color used in this relief is ivory with a few cracks and pieces broken off. There is some discoloration which causes the color to come off as slightly light brown for most of the relief. The sculpture appears larger compared to the other sculptures in the art room. It represents a family which includes a man, his wife, and their child united on one high relief. There is a fourth character that is a part of the relief but she appears to be incomplete. The high relief contributes to the overall size of this sculpture by expanding the shape and proportions of all the characters. The right side is compact consisting of three of the four characters while the left is loose with just a head present.…

What makes a piece of art art? Is it the creation itself or is it a combination of elements that make a piece a good piece of art. Artist use elements to add depth and meaning to the pieces they create. Photographed in 1983, the image ‘Suzie Streetwalker at Limelight’ by Ken Schles is a black and white archival pigment print, and captures clear contrasts in both tone and colour. These contrasts are echoed in the figures as the central figure, Suzie Streetwalker, perches on a ledge, vacant and alone, while the three figures in the foreground laugh and engage in conversation. The central figure’s white spotlight body immediately captures the viewer’s attention, however, the attention of this figure is not with the viewer as she stares emotionlessly outwards, balancing a glass of wine in her right hand. The slanting shoulder and tipped head of the man to the bottom left and the two figures to the bottom right create a pyramidal composition, drawing further attention to the central figure who sits at the apex. This effect is further emphasised by the orthogonal line that the shadow casts on the wall to the right of the central figure.…

o start of by talking about the early Renaissance Art, the definition is that Renaissance “was a period when scholars and artists began to investigate what they believed to be revival of classical learning, literature and art”. The first painting that caught my eyes while reading chapter twelve was the Deposition. This piece was painted by Rogier van der Weyden. The reason why I really liked this piece was because it was a very meaningful piece about Christ. The Deposition is a painting of the removal of Christ’s body from the cross. According to the book, this artwork was very popular in the fifteenth century because of it’s potential for a dramatic, personally engaging portrayal. The book also says that Jesus’ friends seem noticeably real,…
