The purpose of this paper is to reflect on my learning experiences in my Development of Self class and how these experiences will provide me with a strong nursing foundation. It is through the reflection of our experiences that we gain knowledge of ourselves. (Cooper, 2001).
Engaged Occasion One
Reflecting, I felt most engaged when discussing APA format. Students are expected to use the Cites and Sources revised Third Edition as a reference for APA format. This edition is different than what our professor had been referring to in turn causing some confusion. What piqued my interest was the expectation that we use report format and headings to better organize the flow of our papers. These concepts of APA were then new to me. I was engaged during this discussion because I wanted to fully understand the value and importance of these concepts. “Headings help to organize the presentation of your research and are required for most reports” (Haig et al., 2010, p. 10). I had just submitted my first paper a week prior to this class and was unsure I had properly formatted my paper making me feel less confident. It is important to me that I properly present my work with professionalism, and making it understandable for the reader. “A successful research essay or report must be professionally formatted and presented” (Haig et al., 2010 p.10). Through participating in this discussion I have developed a better understanding of what is expected of me when writing papers and feeling confident.
Engaged Occasion Two
The second occasion I felt most engaged in was the exam review adjustments. I felt engaged because this was a change that I had advocated for.
