Audiences don’t need to visit an art gallery if they want to view artworks. Art galleries are essential to the Art World but they are not the only source for audiences to view art. Art and artwork is defined as the application of human skill, creativity and imagination. Taking this into consideration, individuals need to examine the nature and purpose of art galleries as a place to collaborate, organize and display a collection of artworks. As art is any expression of human creativity, its presence is not strictly to art galleries and is evidently present in the world around us in the forms of photographs, the internet or even in graffiti as well as the traditional forms; painting and sculpture. Banksy uses public places as his main form of ‘gallery’ and this makes his artworks easily seen by the public, he has also had many exhibitions in galleries of works he has done on canvas. Two artworks he has done are ‘Jesus Christ with Shopping Bags’ and ‘Sunflower field Gas Masked Girl.’ Artemisia Gentileschi’s work when she first started painting would have displayed her work in her father’s workshop where today galleries are important to view her artworks as they are the only place you would find them. Two of her artworks are ‘Susanna and the Elders’ and ‘Judith Slaying Holofernes.’ Banksy is famous for his graffiti art although he has kept his identity a secret. Most of Banksy’s works are found around in cities and towns widely available to the public, is audience. For example, his artwork ‘Sunflower field Gas Masked Girl,’ seems to be spray-painted onto an old drum that you may find lying around. It is a gas masked girl holding a can of spray paint. In her mask there is a view of a field of flowers instead of her face. Next to the graffiti artist there is a simple yellow flower that she has painted.
