One reason art education should be kept in the curriculum is because it increases academic achievement. Students who participate in art and music classes succeed better in academics than those who do not. “Research has indicated that students involved in art and music tend to exceed average achievement in other areas of the curriculum” (Flynn). In today’s day in age it is very apparent that adolescents find it hard to express confidence. Ford explains that, “students involved in arts education are stronger in building confidence”. When students take performing art classes, for example, they are increasing their confidence every time they go on stage. Why remove a class from the school curriculum when it has such a positive outcome with students.
Art and music education, however, may not be as efficient as core subjects like math and english when it comes to basic skills. “Most employers interviewed in a 2002 study concluded that the basic reading, writing, and math skills of high school graduates were fair or poor” (Goldmark and Campbell).
